London Bubble Theatre
Company presents URBAN DREAMS in SYDENHAM WELLS PARK Sunday 21st
September 2008 @ 7.30pm

Following on from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream
in the Dolphin Garden we get another outdoor production to challenge our
Sydenham Summer of 2008. To quote from London Bubble's Press
Release:
Some of Londons most striking public spaces will
be occupied by over sixty performers from different generations performing a
new piece of theatre. URBAN DREAMS, has been led by some of Londons most
exciting emerging artists writer, Jennifer Farmer, composer Martina
Schwarz, puppeteer Aya Nakamura, lighting designer Nao Nagai, all working
alongside London Bubbles experienced community theatre practitioners
director Jonathan Petherbridge, designer Pip Nash, sound artist Lewis
Gibson and movement director, Linda Dobell.
During the year leading up to Urban Dreams, Bubble have
led workshops with adults, children and elders evolving a unique performance
style and exploring the world of dreams. URBAN DREAMS tells the stories of six
particular Londoners from the communities of Enfield, Southwark and Lewisham.
The show is performed as a dream and explores some of the science of sleeping,
asking why we dream and what happens when dreams are frustrated.
The company of amateur performers range in age from 6
to 76. Although most are untrained, many have been working with Bubble to
develop this form of community performance over a number of years. Since
Gilgamesh in 2000, London Bubble have invited participants to join in a series
of summer projects which have pushed the boundaries of the community play.
URBAN DREAMS is the most ambitious of these projects touring to seven outdoor
locations across South East London.
Creative Director, Jonathan Petherbridge, adds:
London Bubble is a company which works in partnership with its community.
URBAN DREAMS would not be possible were it not for the work we do in dozens of
schools and in hundreds of workshops through the year. Out of this rich
relationship comes work that is incredibly moving and strange. But it is not
simple, some of URBAN DREAMS is highly complex and demanding. Many of the
company are highly skilled and very experienced at this kind of work. They push
the artists to higher levels and provide a resource that is unique in power and
range. I think the result is going to be unique and wonderful.
