Re: SCAMS
A new scam targets people who've ordered a Covid 19 test, asking for bank details to pay for the test, which is free of course. (News this morning.) Sigh.

Re: moving to Sydenham
I think it might be that there's just little action at the moment. You could try online agents active here, e.g. Acorn, Property World, Pedder. There are others, so check a catch all like Zoopla which has a fair number under £400K. Good luck.
Re: SCAMS
syenhamboy, in a perfect world scammers wouldn't exist and people wouldn't be taken in by the ones that do exist. The reason of course is that scammers are very clever and are very well practised in words and tone used or phone tricks they've devised. I personally gave a factual account of the very ...
Re: SCAMS
Latest scam received several times via landline recently is: "A payment of £ many has been made from your credit/debit card today (adding sometimes outside this country). Press 1 to stop this transaction." They tend to come in phases, like every day for a week presumably to imply urgency t...

Re: Outrageous Acorn Estate Agents
Maybe Acorn just got the address wrong? Estate agents use subcontractors for placing and collecting sign boards so mistakes or inattentiveness can happen. As I understand it, new legal rules came in a few years ago, whereby a "For Sale" board can be placed only if commissioned for that pro...

Re: Free bike servicing in Mayow Park?
I'd be inclined to check park byelaw restrictions or ask the parks department first and they'd probably say no, as all and sundry could set up stalls with free goods/services, brackets donations welcome. Or go ahead and see if anyone stops you as long as it wouldn't attract a fine of course. I think...

Re: What's the circumference of Wells Park?
I pulled up Google Maps to use the "measure distance" option, which you get by mouse right-clicking on the map and selecting measure distance, then clicking elsewhere. Note the distance down, close (click X on the little box), take more measurements. Adding them together will give a reason...

It was almost quiet here last week so maybe it is/was petering out now that people don't feel they're locked in, or are choosing not be, any more, rightly or wrongly.

What's it like now? I'm still noticing the absence of criss cross con trails and the increase of more birds flying around since traffic reduced, although that seems to be on the rise again.

This list of deliverers in London was in the Evening Standard recently:

I can't say if they'll all be run off their feet now.

Re: Planetary Disaster Averted - Ozone Layer Healing
If there is any truth to the report, i.e. that near-zero CFCs has had a positive effect, rather than observational truth that could produce a perfect wrong conclusion, perhaps the biggest take away is that damage caused by humankind might not be permanent and that somehow the earth can mend itself, ...

Re: Estate agents boards
There are rules about boards now. Ask the agent if a board is valid or still valid (property live and offered by them or not more than 14 days beyond sold or let date). Most agents will remove them once reminded if invalid as I imagine the boards aren't cheap and of course destruction or theft is no...

Hi Makesydenhamgreat and welcome. The problem for eateries in Sydenham is that they don't attract enough bums on seats to stay viable with high rent and rates. Sydenamites central like to go "out" to the surrounds like CP, Beckenham, East Dulwich but few outsiders are attracted to come her...

Yes, background people who rarely reach the headlines yet are as essential and integral a part of any functioning organisation as is anyone else.
It takes a lot for these people to up sticks and walk out so let's hope that whatever's caused the pay delay is put right quickly and without argument.

Thanks for the heads up and alert to new scams. Why are these posted in the Asylum rather than to a wider readership? Could I add something: Although people ought to be covered by their banks,as I understand it that is provisional on the victim not being complicit or aiding the fraud in some way, e....

The referendum wasn't just to decide whether to leave the EU because of the money the UK paid into it was it? In fact the bus myth was busted in every headline for a week before the referendum. However, I reckon the reality is that people who weren't in favour of the EU and its rules at voting time ...
