It looks as though we may be getting one of these - or something similar - a month:

Penge's "May Day" street market/fair today
Not seen anything about this anywhere else - except in Penge High Street - but apparently there's some sort of special market/fair being held in Maple Road today. The road is supposed to be closed between 7 am and 7 pm.

Preparations for the Wireless Festival in Crystal Palace Park, 1st-3rd July 2022
This may not affect people in Sydenham overly much, but bearing in mind the number and nature of the problems caused by last September's Wireless Festival at Crystal Palace the organisers, Festival Republic, say they want to work with locals to provide a better experience this year. They've already ...

Closure period now confirmed as 23rd to 31st July. Let's hope there will be a full Southern service from Sydenham again by then as some form of compensation.

Re: 194, 202 and 450 bus drivers on strike
I initially thought it was only the 194 that was affected around here: I was horrified to find out that 3 out of 4 bus routes were out of action - must have been quite paralysing for many people

Holy Trinity's auction is back on 26th March
I've had a flyer round about Holy Trinity Lennard Road's auction returning on 26th March (12 pm, viewing from 10 am), but can't find anything about it on their website (which doesn't seem to have been updated recently). Antiquities (it says!), collectables, jewellery, glass and porcelain and so on. ...

Major rail engineering work Penge East - Sydenham Hill this summer
Network Rail have announced major engineering work - track renewal - in the Penge Tunnel area this summer: https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/kent/kent-and-south-east-london-railway-upgrade-plan/brixton-to-beckenham-junction-penge-tunnel/ Basically, removing and replacing t...

Re: Debit card found in Jews Walk
I couldn't agree more. I found a Barclays debit card elsewhere in the Borough some months ago - on a Saturday - and gave up after probably 1/4 of an hour on their phone line. I ended up taking it to the branch in Bromley, thinking I could put it through their letterbox at least, only to find that th...

Re: Mail
Interesting to see a "whistleblower" on the BBC tonight - who may or may not work in our area - suggesting that much of the problem has been caused by enlarged rounds, allocated by computer, and insufficient time to deliver everything.

Re: Masks (again!)
I wonder if Covent Garden was full of tourists? Sorry, I was referring to the Opera House. I am limiting myself to places where one can expect both the organisers and audiences to be taking care. So my outings tend to be places like the Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall. Me too. I noticed the St...

Re: Train services - Southern - disruption till 10th January
It was back last Saturday - but there were no Overgrounds instead.
Coming back through Victoria tonight, I noticed an almost-complete absence of Southern trains on the departure boards. Have Southern started cutting trains again?

I can currently hear what sounds like drilling going on somewhere in the vicinity of the "Venner Road toastrack". In my experience, drilling this late at night tends to mean emergency water works. We'll see.

Re: Train services - Southern - disruption till 10th January
I expect the staff at Sydenham will obliviously carry on telling people to change onto non-existent Southern services at various other stations as per what seems to be normal nowadays. The apparent lack of interest in anything other than TfL services nowadays is appalling. I wonder whether it's the ...

Re: Covid Vaccine - Third Booster Jab
The gov dashboard states 124% 2k to 4k increase in cases in 7 days. Has anyone noticed any increases or is this number overstated? Well, when I last managed to get the interactive site to work we were still in dark blue - it's now magenta and dark burgundy (which technically means limitless), if th...

Ah yes, Sydenham, that well-known leafy suburb of SE London. Can't say I remember seeing many trees around, apart from in Home Park, when I went past yesterday.

Re: Covid Vaccine - Third Booster Jab
Went for a booster at Sydenham Green yesterday - appointments only - so efficient that we barely saw anyone else there the whole time. In - get jabbed - out - and that's it. No waiting around for 15 minutes, or anything, unless you feel so inclined.
