Re: Budgens
What a shame that it looks like the High Street may be blighted by a large empty unit. As Sydenham was not one of the 12 stores offered for closure in the proposed and rejected creditors voluntary agreement, does that mean that it was not making a loss, horrible though Budgens is? And I feel really ...

I've reported fly tipping via fixmystreet several times and the response has always been excellent. Record is less than 24 hours.

Re: Save Beer Rebellion - we need your help!
Beer Rebellion is worth saving because it was/is an extremely pleasant place to drink beer. It suffered from a lack of investment and support from the successor management after the demise of Late Knights compared to their other bars in Gypsy Hill and Peckham. Given the woeful lack of decent boozers...

They have the right to rule because they are elected to do so by the voters of Lewisham.I was shocked when I read about him in the Guardian. Lewisham Labour are bloated, lazy and think they have the right to rule.
Re: Budgens
Tesco have put a bid in to buy Bookers, the wholesaler that owns the Budgens brand and supplies the stores. Booker does not own the stores, which are independently owned. Tesco has said that it does not intend to acquire more stores as it knows the bid my fall foul of competition regulation. So at l...

Re: Dangerous dog - Venner Road
This house in question is two doors down from mine and their dog has been simply amazing around our baby. We walk by them and they walk by us (and chat) and the dog has never acted viciously towards us. In fact, she is rather placid and just breathes loud I'm sure it has been simply amazing around ...

Re: IPhone repair
Thanks. I decided to use Apple, but then read that they "pre-authorise" your debit card so that they can help themselves to your money if they find any faults that they think they should repair. In the end, I used the phone shop in the high street, the one near Snappy Snaps. £50 for a new ...

Re: Budgens
The risk of contamination from coins which have been handled by someone who has been handling raw meat is very small. Most people come into contact with bacterial contamination of one sort or another every day, on door handles for example. Mobile phones have been shown to be frequent depositories of...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
Yes, I came to the same conclusion. Not Antic then, though always unlikely in my opinion given their business model and house style. The pubs run by Mr Mallin seem to be quite smart gastropubs tuned to perceived local demand. Average ratings on Tripadvisor and Beer in the Evening. Seem most of them ...

Re: Jim Dowd speaks on Southern in Parliament
Do I understand correctly that Southern is effectively being forced by the government to introduce this driver-only door operation which is the cause of so much of the disruption Indeed you do. Unfortunately, the almost comically useless and most ideologically driven cabinet minister in living memo...

Re: Parking tickets
Lewisham have been using parking ticket enforcers mounted on mopeds for years. I got nabbed outside Forest Hill library by one such ages ago. Not complaining, I was parking illegally. Some local authorities-Croydon for example, use covert CCTV which is really sneaky. When I lived in Bromley the lack...

Thorpe's lighting
Does anyone have any idea when the street lighting in Princethorpe Road will be upgraded to match the rest of the estate? We were told last year that the contractors were waiting for some adapters to be made as they were keeping the existing lighting standards. I'm not a great fan of the new "D...

I'm not commenting on his selection of places to eat and drink in Sydenham, but speaking as a native and devotee of Kernow's greatest contribution to gastronomy; if he thinks that the Cake Store's Cornish pasties are "very good" he's an idiot.

Re: Co-operative Food store to rebrand as a Budgens store
The demise of the coop is a real loss for Sydenham. It was reliable for the basics, had good fresh fruit and veg, and its bakery was great. A lot of its stuff was fair trade or otherwise ethically sourced. It had a good and interesting wine and beer selection and it did a great home delivery service...

Woodennsash window repair and renovation
Having discovered some rot in the cills of some sash windows we are painting, any recommendations for someone to repair them much appreciated. The interweb has dozens of firms claiming to be experts in repairing sash windows, but obviously personal experience would be very helpful. Thanks.

How do I get one- bird of prey I mean?. Bloody pigeons crap all over my roof and I can't get rid of them. The stupid woman in the garden that backs onto mine insists on feeding them.
