Please let me explain why I have deleted these posts. I have been contacted by Malcolm Smith, who has pointed out to me in no uncertain terms how they could damage his reputation, and that had I contacted him first, I could have avoided this risk. Knowing nothing of his personal tax position, I tried to avoid alluding to it, but clearly others were likely to draw mistaken implications. He has now informed me, and I would like all readers of this Forum to know that he has nothing to hide. I am happy to have deleted them immediately he asked me to, not just because of any consequences had I not, but because I recognise what I wrote was stupid and unfair.
