Beware forged 20p pieces

Post by mosy »

That is all. I don't know if they are circulating or perhaps I just got an odd one today.

They're coming over from Ireland. Apparently they file down 50p pieces to make 20p pieces.

A good attempt Maestro,... but this has come back on you badly.

Ireland now uses the Euro

With the current metal prices ( although coming down ) I would think not worth anyone's while to forge 20p

Well, I'm sure (not 100%) that the particular 20p piece I have ain't a good 'un. It's curiosity more than anything. Maybe forgeries of small denomination coins succeed because no-one would suspect them?

Strangely, I received a 50p coin yesterday (clearly genuine IMO) but which had a similar "coating" in the middle. By "coating", I mean what you'd expect solder to look like. Curiouser and Curiouser...

*must get out more*
