yes indeed, surely the first most pressing need is to make the building weatherproof/watertight, and sort out any structural issues that have arisen since they left site, due to Purelake/contractors leaving the building open to the elements for several months!

I took some photos today as there was activity on-site:



I went around the back to see guys putting up the mural tiles:



They said they would be finished by tomorrow and the green gauze may be taken down next week so we can see it. But if you squint through thee gauze now ...



I asked if there was anything else happening to the building. The answer was - NO!

The mural tiles were delivered to Purelake in September 2013. They have been with the developers ever since!

Why on earth have they done it this way around? They could get damaged. I hope the planners ensure that Purelake pay for any damage to the tiles during the rebuild.

Oh, and thanks for letting me know the mural was going up Mr G Dowd…NOT!

I hope councils and housing associations give this company a wide birth in the future and I'd advise any small suppliers to give them a wide birth and DO NO enter any public art competitions if they are involved if you want to be paid within 18 months! I'd be disappointed if Lewisham work with them again.

It's insane! How can the artwork possibly NOT be damaged by building work?

Are Purelake really that incompetent? Do they fit carpets before doing plastering? Do they not even have a competent project manager?

It's insulting to Lee and his team, who put so much hard work and heart into this project. And it's insulting to those Sydenham people who donated their precious images.

Looks like they've finished installing the mural, but the rear wall is still shrouded in scaffolding so it's difficult to see the whole thing. Nothing else appears to be happening though. It's all a bit of a shambles really.

I read that the world's proposed tallest building of 200 floors is due to be built and completed in Saudi Arabia within 5 years - similar report: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2 ... di-arabia/ Clearly no-one's told them that it takes longer than that to renovate a 1-floor + mezzanine building.

At least the people working on site across the road from the Greyhound next to Sydenham railway bridge are getting on with their new building

I saw the tiled mural of the greyhound dog the other day…. It's quite charming (to see a greyhound in mural form)….although I'm not sure it suits a building of that age (I am a bit of a snob when it comes to period architecture)….

That said..it's a shame that the only work going on is on the side which is not visible to the world that sees it from the road and footpath…. It therefore continues to be an eye sore unfortunately.

A brief update:

The different parties who need to sign the deed of variation are still at odds. Until they can reconcile their differences and they sign the deed of variation the new planning permission (to allow rebuilding of the pub) cannot be formally granted.

Officers at the Council (perhaps understandably) are, I understand, unwilling to get involved in the discussions on the deed of variation as they involve 'commercial issues' between the parties. I have, therefore, suggested that an independent mediator who specialises in planning and property could be brought in to try to break the deadlock.

I have also suggested that we need to know from officers and our elected councillors whether, in the event that the deadlock on the deed of variation cannot be broken:
- It is possible to take enforcement action to force Purelake to rebuild the pub
- Whether the Council is willing to take enforcement action

As for the tiled wall, it's not entirely clear why Purelake have installed it. I believe that officers at the Council are investigating (presumably both why Purelake have done it and whether, in planning terms, they were authorised to do so).
