I cannot understand people who just throw their rubbish on the ground even when there are bins close by
Seems all my images broke, so I've re-added some...

It's complicated. Sometimes it's the birds emptying the bins. Or foxes. Sometimes the bin is so full it blows out. Some of it is chucked out of car windows. But yes, there are people that just throw their rubbish. They seem to think gutters are cleaned every day, but it really just gets washed down the drains (if they are not completely blocked with soil). They seem to think the streets are swept a few times a day. They will often 'hide it', chucking it behind things, or in the long grass. Subconsciously I think they don't like litter, but in hiding it, they make it harder to clean, as it ends up on private land or out of sight.

Keep Britain Tidy did an experiment years ago which showed people are more likely to drop litter if they see other 'beacon' litter nearby. Bright colours and shiny things, like wrappers and cans and bottles. Even if there was a bin right there. So I hope that trying to keep things tidy means less littering

Bus stops get a lot of rubbish too and they should all have bins imo. I moved one to a bus stop a while ago and it drastically reduced the littering in the gardens next to it.

But the council need to sort out their estate bins too, which leak a lot of litter. And empty the bins more regularly and make sure there aren't bags left on the street at night (because of foxes). And get us some more bins, as Sydenham High Street is absolutely littered with them and Bell Green has hardly any.

And the bins need modernising. Higher capacity, recycling options, ashtrays, wildlife and weather proof. The entire waste management process is dire.

Thanks.]]>

Thought about it again today when I emptied yet another litre bottle of water, filled with urine and shoved behind a green box near the primary school.

Though why people should care if it's volunteers with kids cleaning up after them or a street sweeper is beyond me. More than enough litter around without people adding whatever they have in their hands. They are not keeping anyone in their job by chucking a can or bottle.

And whoever likes to rip a free newspaper or lottery ticket into lots of little pieces on a regular basis should have a go at litter picking imo.

Todays 'slightly longer than it should take' walk to the shop...

I'm in a tangle over this.

Yes I would rather they had moved the burden upwards. But that is going to be a long hard haul.
A windfall tax on energy companies would have fixed this. Even Thatcher did one
The 1980s
In 1981 Thatcher’s then chancellor, Geoffrey Howe, accused high street banks of escaping the recession. He introduced a special budget levy that creamed off 2.5% of the banks’ non-interest-bearing current account deposits to generate about £400m in extra revenue – equivalent to around a fifth of their profits in those 12 months.

The following year, Treasury officials came to the same conclusion when oil prices soared, and imposed a special tax, raising £2.4bn. North Sea oil firms argued at the time that extra taxes would limit investment, but the industry flourished.

Four boroughs on station approach - pretty much takeaway only - very popular coffee and other merchant (sells cycle related merch). They’re 4th place alongside CP, Loughborough Junction and Norwood Junction.

Kirk’s cafe on Kirkdale (opposite fox and hounds) - more than just a coffee shop as does late openings and has a few taps for beers etc too.

Then slightly up from there on Kirkdale (opposite Tesco) will be Mont58’s first coffee shop. They are first and foremost coffee roasters/suppliers based out of Brockley way. They have a crowdfunder with rewards etc to support the opening/get eyes on it etc. Here’s the link if interested: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/mont58#start

Closures:
The Pet shop is closing its doors after 50 years! But if you are a pet owner and want to support a local pet shop/prefer specialist stuff - Snuffles the dog cafe next to wells park will be stocking some pet food etc as a result of the closure to give locals an alternative.

The stationary shop also has signs that it is closing down after I’m not sure how many years but imagine quite a few!

Hopefully both will have something in their places that fills a need for the community and are successful businesses whatever they be! 🤞👍]]>

In the last year or so it seems however, that bus stop closures alongside these measures are more frequent and now almost universally it is the case that TfL do not make any attempt to provide temporary bus stops.

Space is always at a premium for setting up of temporary bus stops by TfL and it is recognised it is not always easy to make temporary arrangements. As we are witnessing in Sydenham now, several bus stops in sequence are closed and no temporary bus stops have been setup, leaving excessive distances between the stops that are not closed. For the elderly and others who are less mobile, this is punitive.

TfL should adopt their previous practice of providing temporary stops when a permanent stop is closed - or at least they could make a serious effort to do so. Can LB Lewisham, as the relevant highways agency, call upon the design of temporary traffic control measures to include the provision of temporary bus stops? Or withhold the granting of a road work permit until the omission is corrected - and/or take the matter up directly with TfL?

This step would be viewed by many as being essential.]]>

Lewisham Council have set-up an online survey to gather feedback from residents, amenity groups, neighbourhood groups and local historians regarding six potential ASLCs in Forest Hill and Sydenham.

The six areas being considered are:

- Planning family meals including food purchase and prep.
- Running other local errands.
- Additional babysitting hours in the evening (not essential)

This post could be ideal for a school mum or a young person looking to gain experience for a production based career.

I am looking for someone that will make me wonder how I ever survived before having him or her.

The right personal assistant will reduce my workload, prevent me having to deal with small tasks, make decisions on my behalf so I can simply give feedback for next time, and free up my schedule in general.

Your main Key Performance Indicator is how much free time you have enabled me on a weekly basis to spend on restorative alone time and quality time with my children, friends and communities.

1 month trial, hours by negotiation, £14/hr

Please email hello@nourishandpower.com to apply. No formal resume required.

Extensive experience does not impress me but common sense, a love of learning, emotional stability and high emotional IQ certainly does.

Can’t wait to hear from you!!]]>

I know there are a couple of dry cleaners, but I would feel more confident if I knew of someone who has used and vouches for the quality. If it's affordable that's a bonus.
