I was not at the meeting. Regarding the cost of other pools. The £17m at Downham seems high for just the pool. The project also included a library, sport & community facilities and a medical centre. I'm sure the council would have a breakdown of costs. The cost of Wavelengths is interesting as t...

There appear to be dogs being bought and 'trained' to hang for ages from tree branches by their teeth. The owners tend to be in their teens and there may 2-3 of these dogs in a group of teenagers. Are the dogs for protection or serve another purpose? Yesterday I saw a teenager with a purposely desig...

Model Railway, Church Road

Does anyone remember a toy/model shop in Church Road that had a model railway as part of its window display? On the outside of the shop there was a slot for putting money in and you could watch the trains go round. I think it was towards the roundabout opposite one of the two cinemas. There was also...

The Sphinxs in Crystal Palace Park

In some photographs of the *1980's there were two sphinxs each side of the stairs leading from one level to another. Were they removed if so does anyone know where to?

*Edited, had put the wrong decade.

Wasn't the original plan to retain one of the old towers to act as a breaker between the new town hall and the Broadway Theatre? Planners often refer to the building line but the Civic Suite juts out about 10ft thus obscuring The Broadway Theatre. Other buildings between Catford & St. Mary's tha...

Performers at the Crystal Palace in the 1920's

I think I have found film of a relative performing at the Crystal Palace in the 1920's. Are there printed programmes of that era so I can check when they may have appeared there, possibly as early as 1904.
