Thanks Ali - you're not making me feel any more comfortable. But good to see Griff Rhys Jones there as well, now leading the Civic Society Initiative

Hi fi system advice

Recommendations please on where to go, brands, and what to pay for either: 1. Separately, an amp, CD player and DAB radio for use with existing turntable and speakers, with possibility of adding more bits of kit (iPod etc); or 2. an entire new system. Sound quality is not a big issue - I kind of lik...

I can't say exactly what happened beause I was only there part of the time, but I think the position is that the extra money will be found from somewhere for the top four projects - so yes, £10K as seed for the mosaic project. I was there, in fact, with an idea for getting local public domain inform...

Seen on Sydenham Road this morning
Image

Not one of the Arts festival insiders but an ordinary Sydenham resident who enjoyed the street party, the event in Mayow Park, and walking proof of this festival connecting with the locality.

Free garden waste disposal

From Lewisham Council - the condensed version: Residents can take their garden waste - in plastic or reusable bags - at weekends to Girton Road Car Park, Sydenham from where it will be collected by Lewisham and then taken for disposal. Open to residents from 9am to 12noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Y...

Can't help you I'm afraid. I had to leave at half time, having made a contribution about wheelbarrows. Can they be included in a definition of Art? Your mission, should you choose to accept it!

I'll back up mummycat on this - and a stroke of genius to hold it the day Andrew Gormley was questioning 'What is Art' on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square. Those going along Thursday should watch out for this on Kent House Road: http://www.sydenhamsociety.com/images/stories/philosophyshop.png wh...

SA Festival - Balalaika London at the Dolphin

Listening to Balalaika London playing at the Dolphin last night has to have been one of the best summer evenings I've had for a long time. The garden was full, and the staff somewhat overwhelmed. Maybe when they come back they will have added 'The pub with no beer' to the repertoire.

SA Festival - Ensemble Dix were great

I went along to the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Kirche fearing something very dry, German and academic. The programme was all J S Bach, and I wasn't exactly reassured. But before long I realised we were being offered a wonderfully imaginative musical biography of the man, with spoken excerpts telling the st...

Yes - nice cup of tea for only 80p, and a good location to read the papers or look out and see what's happening on Sydenham Road ... which clearly has a bearing on why they wanted to get rid of the old front, even though retaining the basic shape of it.

Small glacier in Sydenham

Okay - this is a slightly unusual one: http://www.lund.co.uk/images/smallglacier.JPG What you see is the line of snow that had accumulated on the upper part of my solar powered clothes drier* prop having slipped off ... except it didn't just fall, but assumed this interesting loop. How does that hap...

Renewal of gas mains in Sydenham Rd - ring 020 8858 6910

This could be a nightmare, but Sydenham Traders and the Sydenham Society have been on to the Council about at least keeping people informed. One key fact is that it is Southern Gas Networks (SGN), not Lewisham, who call the shots, which is why I've put their phone number in the subject line. I expec...

I believe Council officers are in fact looking at this thread as a way of checking up where these are getting distributed, so if you could say which estate you are on it might help.

Fishcox You may think the weird, but it is real. It is absolutely publicity, public pressure and local support we need to get the investment - not just now but in the future, and not just for Mayow Park, but for other local parks too. But for now, let's all get behind Mayow Park. Would you prefer de...

Signs of life in Sydenham and Forest Hill?

Just as a matter of interest, how many people have registered the glossy Council production - "Sydenham and Forest Hill Life" - http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/AboutLewisham/Neighbourhoods/SydenhamAndForestHillLife.htm - and if so how? Picked up from libraries, delivered door...
