Re: Have you bought your fish this week?

I've been shopping at Billings once or twice a week since it opened, and am much more likely to pop into Fresh & Fruity as a result. I've been really pleased by how willing they are to bring in some unusual types of fish and seafood (I think they were amused by my enthusiasm over an octopus a fe...

Re: Work in Mayow Park cricket square starting Aug 25

Well, I'm quite pleased to hear about the development of the Mayow Park cricket square. And if it's going to be "monopolised" by people who actually play cricket, so much the better. It seems every time I open a paper I'm confronted with reports about how children aren't playing enough spo...

Re: HOME PARK FUN DAY & FILM SCREENING, 12th August

A lovely afternoon out for me and my three under-5s, and I hope it becomes a regular thing. Well done to everyone involved.

Re: WHAT IF no 13: BILLINGS Fishmongers & butchers

I've just been in. The stock looks good, with a lot of the old favourites represented (haddock, tuna, squid, mussels, mackerel, bass, mullet) as well as a few more exotic types (milk fish, red fish, carp). Prawns were cooked and scallops were out of shell, but that may just be an early days thing. (...

1. Other than the pub where do you currently purchase your beer from? Waitrose or local off-licenses. 2. What type of beer do people prefer to drink? Premium lagers, Belgian beers (I love Utobeer and buy lots of gifts for people from there - it's just such a pain to carry it home from Borough), real...

When you shop or eat out, do you stay local or travel elsewhere? We have young children, so food shopping is a mix of a weekly Ocado delivery with supplements from Borough Market (meat, fish, cheese, coffee, bread). We tend to use the high street for minor shopping: Wellbeing for whole foods, Fresh...

It's difficult for a "successful" high street to change its spots. I used to live not far from Kilburn High Road, and was fascinating to see the housing around it morph into "West-West Hampstead" while chi-chi delis and shops popped up in little side streets in Queens Park and Ma...

Hi, I'm in for football tomorrow (7th), it will be my first game. (not ever fortunately, just for this gathering)
I'll also need reminding of the time and location (Beckenham Goals?)

Hi, I'm very interested in playing some five-a-side locally, where do you guys play?

I can't come next Wednesday (going to watch Arsenal play Barcelona) but would be up for the following Wednesday if that's when you tend to play?

Thanks.

Hi El Rudeo, it's really great to have you here. I've also visited the restaurant and agree with some of the earlier posts. The place is off to a good start and the service is good, which is great to see in a new local business. Tapas are one of my favourite ways to spend an evening and I'm a regula...

Oh come on - there is a regular criticism of any desire for different shops along the lines of, "we don't want Sydenham to become poncy and overpriced." Any wish to see a Gourmet Burger, a Pizza Express or anything of that ilk nearly always attracts someone who feels they must complain tha...

Trawlerman, I saw this and thought of you: http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/reviews/22413.html There you go. The revival is starting, albeit probably in a more gentrified form than you'd hoped. Perhaps in around 5 years or so someone will get around to putting a branch on our high street.[/...

I simply do not understand the binary approach so many regulars here take. Why does Sydenham Road have to poundshops OR yoga studios? Why not a mix of the two?

Oh I see - it's those OTHER middle class people who are ghastly. Especially the ones who've turned up in the neighbourhood recently. But you've just enough salt of the earth to be all right.

While I'd love to believe that Sydenham Road was destined to go the way of Columbia Road and become a haven of slightly mad, quirky little shops, given our suburban reality Subway is not a bad chain to see moving in. It's a step up from Wimpy, anyway.

Terribly sorry to hear that we white collar families very young children make you ill, Juwlz. We always speak so well of you. I love the idea of pie & mash. Unfortunately, I've found the actual execution of it pretty bad. Those who are still in business seem happy to lure in the nostalgics at th...
