Re: Now booking: Eye of Day The Mata Hari Story Upstairs at the Sydenham Centre from 26 April - 18 May

Mary and I went to the first night of Mata Hari yesterday. I was most impressed. The combination of her interrogation with simultaneous flashback scenes in her life was an ingenious piece of stagecraft, and extremely well executed. The acting was excellent, and you were carried along by the story. O...

Alarm Technician

Our burglar alarm, a Galaxy 20, was fitted and serviced by the husband of one of my daughters, who was an alarm engineer. Unfortunately they are now divorced and he is out of the picture. We need someone to give the alarm its annual health check, and I suspect it will soon be due for a new battery. ...

Re: Laptop disposal

There is a US DoD standard for erasing discs which involves multiple overwrites with different bit patterns. No original information on the disc is then recoverable. I was commissioned to write a utility which could do this for a Swedish Health authority 30 years ago. I still have a copy of the util...

Incidentally, I admire the initiative of Chef's Delight who, whilst their main entrance was within the cordon exclusion zone. had their back door onto the alley behind the shops open, and were ushering people in.

Re: What is happening on Sydenham Road right now?

Hearsay gleaned from bystanders. Moped involved in robbery, chased by police, failed to stop, struck bus, another vehicle and a pedestrian. One accomplice apprehended. Another one sought.

I have no idea how accurate this is.

Re: Wasps Nest

So, powder I can buy for about £6. I dealt with a wasps nest under the eaves outside the bathroom window about 25 years ago using a puffer pack of wasp killer powder. I cannot remember the brand. The technique used was to approach gently, puff vigorously into and around the nest entrance, and then ...

Re: Moynuls restaurant

My wife Mary and I have eaten there a couple of times recently. The food was good, although not outstanding, but they did have an excellent lime pickle. There was very little custom. I shall be sad if it has closed because it was a pleasant establishment.

I live in wiverton road and I would just like to warn neighbours about a fox who seems fearless. I suspect you have encountered the fox my wife and I call GLF (Good Looking Fox, because a year ago he was a magnificent beast, although he got a bit tatty earlier this year when he had a family to supp...

Stabbing on Sydenham Road

There appears to have been an assault this morning on Sydenham Road a little before 3:45am. There is a trail of blood on the pavement outside YuVape. The victim was reported as being taken to Kings. It appears to be connected with a party which was being held at No. 36. The area was cordoned off, bu...

Re: New St Christopher's Charity Shop

I am very disappointed that the yoga studio will not be going ahead. For years we had placed geranium pots on the triangle of land behind the property to discourage tipping and littering. They were well liked. We were asked to remove them to allow installation of a bicycle rack, which we duly did. T...

Re: Sydenham Society

I think the lack of any reply from Sydenham Society, really says it all. They may not be reading this Forum. Many of the Great and the Good were alienated by the discussions, particularly in the Pub, at the time when Big Bad Wolf had his reign of terror, and stopped reading. Things are a lot less a...

It should have a header tank in the loft which will isolate it from supply interruptions for quite a while, but I am not a plumber and your system may vary.

Hopefully they'll stay. We were asked to remove them over last weekend, which we accordingly did on Saturday and which, since I had made them very heavy to discourage theft, was damned hard work! Since the strip of land is no longer 'abandoned' I guess the new tenants will be responsible for any be...

:-) Stradivarius was a cut above the norm! Different fingering and bowing techniques could contribute to the characteristic sound. I am no expert on that.

There'll be a cycle rack around the back too. I am delighted to hear that. We were asked to remove the geranium pots which we have placed there for the last few years to discourage dumping (the land is not our responsibility, but Ladbrokes showed no interest and we were getting blamed for the rubbi...

Re: 'Sydenham Concerts'

My wife Mary & I both thoroughly enjoyed the concert, and intend to go to the later ones in the series. I was interested by Robin's comment about creamy tones, since I think a baroque violin has a thinner sound than a modern instrument.
