Re: Sticky: NEW! Events calendar

Sorry for the old log in - I am no longer a councillor but was registered on here as such. I will try to join as an individual or as Chair of Penge Forum. However, residents of Penge and Sydenham share an interest in the future of Crystal Palace Park so members here might be interested in a Penge Fo...

Re: Sydenham Farmer's Market...??

I'd be SO into this if you can make it happen!! You should do some research into what ever happened to the Penge farmers market. I loved that until it disappeared without a trace... Penge Farmers' market worked well in Maple Road for several months. However, these Farmers Markets are not just an ad...

Re: Crystal Palace Park

The "plan" is that after the Olympics, Crystal Palace Sports Hall and Stadium become regional facilities (rather than national) under the LDA's responsibility. The Sports Hall becomes dry and a new swimming pool is built alongside a restructured stadium. A lot can happen between now and th...

Re: Crystal Palace Park

The LDA have pulled out of the park but my understanding is that they still have the lease on the Sports Hall and Stadium. Still doesn't mean the conversion will happen but I don't think that part of it is down to Bromley council tax payers.

Re: Sydenham article in The Times today

CORRECTION- apparently Cator Road is in Sydenham, even though it's officially in LB Bromley. Cator Road is indeed in SE26 as far as the Post Office is concerned. However, as it is in the Bromley Ward of Penge & Cator we have now officially annexed it to Penge! Regards, Cllr John Getgood Penge &...

Re: Similar messageboard for Penge?

Anything that helps people from Penge talk to each other is to be welcomed. The Virtual Norwood blog site covers the Penge area and I make frequent contributions. The focus is much more on the area around Crystal Palace though. I tend not to initiate discussions there, leaving it to members to raise...

Penge will not benefit. Bromley as a whole is too affluent to attract much in the way of government grant based on deprivation. There's no doubt that Penge and Crystal Palace lose out as a result. But while money is tight, the government will prioritise those areas most in need. It's to the governme...

Sorry John, respect your posts, but too much of a " sorry your shop closed, come here instead" vibe. Glib is bad... A bit condescending.... Sorry if you read it that way. We always used Mr Sargent as it was nearer to where we live. But if the shop is gone, the information about Murray's m...

We used it regularly - it reminded me of real butchers shops for my childhood. Also liked his pork pies. Slow shopping but quality. It will be missed. You can still find a quality butcher at Murray Brothers on Penge High Street. Cllr John Getgood Penge & Cator. http://www.pengeandcatorcouncillor...

It was a lovely afternoon. A little bit out of the area but the same band (Crystal Place B) will be playing further along the road in Cator Park this sunday from 3 pm.

We had a similar problem in Penge High Street, The police successfully applied for it to be made a no-alcohol zone. That gives them the power to move on or arrest anyone seen drinking alcohol in the prescribed area. Some people find this oppressive but it has undoubtedly made the High Street more pl...

Bromley Council have been informed. I htink the the encampment in the bushes had been destroyed. They still occasionally sleep in the shelter of the old pavilion. I also see them in Sydenham High Street. They ahave previously been moved on but of course that achieves nothing unless treatment or alte...

A new market for Maple Road, Penge

Not just a date for your diary – a genuine local issue. Can a Farmers’ market sustain itself in Penge? Saturday June 6th is the important date. Thanks to the determination of local traders, a market is returning to Maple Rd. Bromley Council has licensed a Farmers’ market to operate initially for 6 m...

These do seem to be proliferating and have been seen by Penge East Station in my ward, so I took some advice. This comes from the Perry Vale sorting office: The Post Office should certainly not be leaving any postman’s trolley out overnight. The office is making enquiries to see if anyone from this ...

I just wanted to add a bit about the education spend. Overall, Bromley borough is far more affluent than Lewisham and has a lower level of measured needs. For that reason, Lewisham attracts a far higher level of government grant. In Bromley, they only spend the amount that the government give as a g...
