thanks for those replies. point taken. i'll be careful, but quite frankly it's hard to see how they could be any more useless than the various doctors i've been going to over the years.
i was just curious about that shop in particular, since i don't think i've ever seen anyone go in or out...

chinese medicine
has anybody used the chinese medicine place on sydenham road? i was thinking of going to see them about my eczema, since conventional doctors seem clueless. from the outside the place doesn't look too inviting, but they've been there for years so i guess they're doing something right. if anyone's ha...

sorry, but does nobody remember Lokal, which used to be where the chippie is now? it wasn't a gastropub and it wasn't particularly posh but it served great food and had a lively, welcoming atmosphere. and it was completely rammed pretty much every night. i don't think the owners sold up due to a lac...

we had the same problem and used these people:

they did a flawless job - made it look brand new.
good luck!

i too would love to know who this is, but in the cases i've been directly involved with - all last year - i'm afraid it was definitely kids. i'd seen them hanging around, as had the neighbours, and somebody across the street actually saw them walk off, come back with their hoods up, then smash in tw...

i'm not sure it's about thieving - that would be too rational. when it's happened to either me or the neighbours there was literally nothing inside the car to take, and no evidence that they'd gone looking in the glove compartments. as far i can tell, they smash the windows because it's such amazing...

i noticed 2 smashed along earlsthorpe road this morning. not mine, but ours was done twice 3 weeks apart last year. looks like the same little s***heads are back. i'm all for a neighbourhood watch scheme, but would it make that much difference? surely we all keep on the lookout as a matter of course...

dorset, i know what you mean about the lack of vegetarian options, and the unfair pricing of what is there, but the dolphin is hardly the worst offender. after god-knows-how-many years of being veggie i've sort of got used to getting stiffed every time i eat out. i actually really liked the cauliflo...

sleepless in sydenham: good work, lewisham
So Lewisham council think it’s perfectly okay to set up a building site on a residential street in the middle of the night. I live at the Mayow Road end of Earlsthorpe Road, and as I type (nearly half-past midnight) there’s a JCB, several huge trucks and god-knows-how-many other machines merrily wor...

hello again greg, must admit, i was so blinded by fury when lokal closed down (i know i'm going back a bit) i've always seen this place as a poor substitute and never tried it. (the neon sign didn't help.) but thanks to this post, i will now. re, the dolphin: i'm almost disturbed by how thrilled i a...

fishcox, that news about the dolphin has made my year. i love the dartmouth almost as much as i loath the dolphin in its current state. i'm amazed they're able to get away with that god-awful bbay-waking racket they call a karaoke night in a residential area... any idea when the takeover might happe...
hi emma,
we used to use these people when our cat was alive:

they were brilliant - much better than a cattery.
good luck!

hello randomv, leaf's right. sydenham really is no more or less dangerous than any other part london - no matter how outwardly 'posh' it is. maybe it's just a case of what you're used to. we lived in highbury for about 6 months, and after my wife was mugged, friends living on really nice islington s...
i don’t know about sydenham as a whole, but thanks to the most pig-ignorant neighbours ever, my end of the street is certainly getting noisier. pretty much every weekend they stand on the street in the small hours shouting at each other, revving their engines (yes, plural), fighting with and swearin...

is this is indeed what happened, why on earth has there been no mention of it anywhere? there's nothing on the web, nothing on news wires, and - most baffling of all - nothing in the evening standard. considering what happened in willesden last friday, you'd think they'd be all over a story that is ...

rubbish behind slatters
does anyone know the status of the plans to put a gate at the end of the alleyway between earlsthorpe road and the high street? the rubbish situation is getting completely out of control. sadly, it's not only fly-tipping. the shops and restaurants don't seem to use their bins - they just pile up the...
