Re: Building work by Penge east station
I've been meaning to bump this thread for ages to say that there's now another coffee shop or something in that building - been in there since the beginning of the year, I'd guess. Called Little Things, I think. Best of luck to them.

Re: Commercial unit next to Penge East station
As I understand it, the footbridge isn't listed in itself, but the station as a whole is. See https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1186820 for a description (you'll need to scroll down)... ...and http://www.bromley.gov.uk/homepage/210/conservation_areas_and_listed_buildings_in...

An hour out?
I was surprised to see that I'd allegedly posted something on February 15th, when as far as I know it's still (just) St. Valentine's Day. Does the forum clock need resetting?

Although technically you're supposed to have a residents' pass to use it free of charge.

Blimey. Still awaiting the vac for "over 65 and extremely clinically vulnerable", which was supposed to have taken place before the over-65s

Re: Anybody seen a gritter?
One came round as I was getting off the bus at the Penge East stop this evening. Scattered a bit (but not much) of something - on a completely cleared road, so I hope it was just precautionary. Unfortunately, it's the side roads which really need - and rarely get - gritting: the junction of Venner a...

So, what will happen to the PFC, which is virtually next door, I wonder? I was going to go in and have a nose round, but my bus came along.

We got taken in the other day by an apparent announcement by HMRC that the latest Covid-19 SEISS grant was being extended by one month until the end of February, although what the point of it was I'm still not sure.

Re: Anybody clap last night?
No doubt it's pretty challenging for a ninety-nine old Zimmer frame user to walk round his garden a hundred times. But to suggest that this merits a knighthood, an honorary colonelcy, flags at half mast in Downing Street, a national clap, a commemorative statue or a plaque in Westminster Abbey (the...

Can you try the Nextdoor app? Bromley Police are always posting things on my Sydenham neighbourhood. I haven't registered whether Sydenham do the same.

Re: Sydenham's Children's Hospital
I stayed at the hospital for a while when I was having my thumb operated on - must have been around 1968. I don't remember a lot about it, except that I think they must have been trying to give me some sort of pre-med prior to my op, but it wasn't taking effect, the nurses said because I'd got too f...

Re: Happy New Year
Figures release today (supposedly up to 28th December) show infection test rates in Lewisham and the surrounding boroughs stabilising at last. OK at appallingly high figures but bucking exponential growth is a real prize nowadays. Really? Well, that's comforting, because when I last looked, a few d...

Re: The Run-in to Christmas 2020
Please do all be careful. I've just had a look at the Govt. website, which is showing parts of Sydenham as having - if I've read it correctly - over 400 cases per 100,000 head of population. That is horrendous.

1.15 AM: tree felling or "boy" racers?
Perhaps someone in the vicinity of, I'm guessing, Lawrie Park Road could identify the source of the noise? Sounds as though it could be tree felling around the railway, but I don't think National Rail usually do it at such antisocial hours, so I'm guessing it's probably someone deciding to use the r...

Replacement for Penge Lidl
I see the former Penge Lidl store (itself the former Edgington's furniture store) is being taken over by something called Mega Saver, I think it was. Not sure quite what it is, but the alcohol licence I think had a Turkish-sounding name on it. Given that it's virtually next door to the Penge Food Ce...
