SE26 Breweriana: Piece of local history

Any of you noticed the Words 'Bitters and Ales' suddenly appear over a shopfrontage in Lower Sydenham on the main road (26 Oct 2012)? Some signage has obviously been removed to reveal this fabulous decades old piece of history. Its opposite the library and next door to the paint & decorating sup...

Re: Lewisham A&E closure threat: history repeated

To those who assisted in the local leafletting, a huge thanks. If money was no object........(I wonder if the "special administrator" mathew kershaw (lower case will suffice) thinks that too). EVRYBODY - thanks for signing the petition/s but please do attend the open public meeting on Thur...

Lewisham A&E closure threat: history repeated

On this very site there is a piece in the news tab from March 2008. Unfortunately this time it seems even more real! People - we may very well see the closure of the A&E at Lewisham hospital. Its convoluted but the Lewisham branch of the 'Keep Our NHS Public' campaign, as well as their own webpa...

No estate agents boards in Syd

Fine piece of self-PR from the estate agents at the top of the hill: "We're taking all our boards down on the main road as they look unsightly...". Cant believe that made from page news. Guess some journalist had a favour done, maybe a good discount.... Talk about shouting from the peak!

Re: The NHS as we knew it !

(You wait, this'll set the cat among the pidgeons, and rightly so). [ Not Sydenham-specific ]. OK - I should have done this on STF months ago in the run-up to the Bill going through the motions in Parliament but due to doing it elsewhere, didnt. Anyway, you may or may not know - the wholesale priva...

I agree with pretty much all that Trawlerman has stated here. True that the provinces are a wholy different survival game where t/port's concerned (I could give examples) but alas I also agree wholeheartedly with T/man's response to that. Unfortunately the pound/dollar sign will always reign supreme...

Has the butchers by the library reopended?

Yeah, I made a comment on here a week or so ago about them being a tad on the unfirendly side. Wondered if it was just me. Not really unfriendly, just dont appear to be exactly orgasmic at the prospect of more business walking in the door. Then I go there Saturday (14th) to find they've gone! Sensit...

Sydenham Commerce

Three local trade-based gripes. 1) Sommerfields' mngr advised me earlier this year that they would, or would consider (don't recall which) replace the community notice board somewhere in their newly revamped store. Well....? They couldnt give a stuff about us. Anybody here interested? 2) That bloke ...

Sorry for late reply Buweiser. No don't think so. Wolfie (trying to remember these names, in a different screen now) was right, in that it was the Bell Green youth club. I was googling something last week and chanced upon some site for one of the three Biggin Hill cafe's at that time, the Nightingal...

Late 60's biker wars

A mate of mine recently showed me some pic's on her pc of her aged 15 with a crowd of biker mates in some caf in Lower Sydenham around '69. Some featured her first husband to be at the time and others included their 'president'. Some may have included some of the formative members of the newly chart...

Hi, Not seen or heard of this site previously. I'm impressed at the level of active interest there is from local people. Searching for anything on the old Machray chemist scandle, looks like last posting's were in May? Or maybe I need to keep looking. Anyway forgive me for regurgitating a previous s...
