Road closure

Do you drive north through Dulwich? If you are rich enough to use the College Road toll-gates or mean enough to take the Huntslip Road detour then it's not going to happen from July 29th to November 2nd. Basically the area around the roundabout where the two routes rejoin t'other side of the toll ga...

Re: Did you vote?

If you look back I didn't vote for her. My relations with the Sydenham Labour Party are best described as "difficult". I will still credit her for doing good work in the constituency as I did for her two predecessors - the first of whom did my family a great service was the Conservative Jo...

Re: Did you vote?

Shame she was not at her desk dealing with constituents' letters. Yes taking a Sunday off to meet her constituents is pretty shocking. But I'm sure you will be delighted to hear Ellie is back slaving over a keyboard today. I got a very positive response at midday to an email I sent on 12/7. Probabl...

How can a self employed person be on maternity leave? (MPs are self-employed... What is called their pay is nothing of the sort. It is a fee!) Can you explain that? As far as I can see nobody here voted for her - indeed the opposite. Green Party environmental policies maybe a more accurate target for you :)

Re: Who is going to win Beckenham & Penge?

Yes the LDs were concentrating their forces in more winnable seats in south/southwest London.

Vindicated with the results achieved. I doubt they mourn Beckenham too much.

Re: Did you vote?

Well I've bumped into Ellie and her sister a number of times in the last year or so. Rather less in the next year or so methinks. Must be the first time Sydenham or anywhere has had two sisters in numbers 10 & 11 concurrently. Something to celebrate as products of our local state schools? Certai...

Re: Did you vote?

Well Ellie is now Minister of State in the Cabinet Office (Minister without Portfolio). A reward for her job with Pat Mcfadden in organising the Labour campaign. Rather flawless compared to Rishi's disaster-a-day effort. I guess that means we will see less of her as a constituency MP. That does brin...

Re: Did you vote?

Yes I was surprised the Greens have emerged from the others as the clear main contender in Lewisham West. Still a long way behind but a reminder to Ellie that the Labour Party's climate policies need to get stronger if she doesn't want the gap narrowed.. Also a reminder to our councillors that they ...

Re: Local Train Services

The original twice an hour service was to Caterham. This now runs fast from East Croydon. One issue with terminating at East Croydon was platform availability (a through train takes only 2 minutes - a terminating train has maybe 10/15 mins which is fixed by the terminating availability at the other ...

Re: Local Train Services

December apparently according to Ellie. And you can always trust Southern's word ;-) According to Ellie? Have you discussed with her - if not, do you have an authoritative source which confirms her personal involvement in a local transport issue? Twitter/X reported here: https://sydenham.org.uk/for...

Re: Local Train Services

Not to mention the 24/7 176 so there is never too late. It's quite speedy at night and a lot cheaper. We generally go into town by rail and return by bus. It's a bit sad to see some of the audience scooting out early to catch their last train home. We are just so lucky in Sydenham. Yes re-establishi...

Who is going to win Beckenham & Penge?

Lewisham West is a foregone conclusion but it's all to play for across the frontier. Fed up with Opinion Polls, MRP predictions, or St John Curtice? Well I have the definitive guide. The result can be found down any boozer provided you visit a sufficiently representative sample. More in Common have ...

Police are searching for a man after defibrillators were stolen from south London stations. The life-saving items were stolen from Lower Sydenham and New Beckenham stations after someone pretended the defibrillators were needed for an emergency. Re: Constituency changes after the General Election

Lewisham West should stay safe Labour. So should West Dulwich & Norwood. More interesting is which way the previous Beckenham constituency goes. It's picking up Penge/Cator Park Labour wards and the troubled Conservative MP is not standing. With the predicted swing it could switch. Every vote th...

Just posted in 'News' from Ellie Reeves: 🚨NEWS UPDATE🚨 After a meeting with @SouthernRailUK, I'm pleased that from December they plan to restore peak services 2x an hour from Penge West & Anerley and increase them to 4x an hour from Sydenham & Forest Hill. Great that they have listened to my...

Re: Did you vote?

The reason why we, unlike so many other boroughs, don't have decent cycle lanes lies nearer home. The original City Hall Superhighway plan was to bring one to Sydenham. That was squashed by a certain mayoral petrolhead (allegedly). I have to admit the Count had the most impressive manifesto: https:/...
