Re: Moving to Sydenham/Please help with advice

I really can't speak for the estate itself because I don't live there or pass through in unsocial hours so I will leave it to others to comment. I do use Sydenham Wells Park and regularly walk my young grand kids there and feel very comfortable. Never seen any problem beyond an odd e-scooter going t...

Re: Masks after 19th

I wear masks on TFL as per the rules of travel. I would say the figure is closer to 15% - 20% not wearing masks in my experience tbh. Thank you. Good to hear. As for the percentage I think this is highly variable depending on time of day amongst other factors. Given the non-wearers are mostly but n...

Re: Masks after 19th

Well youre free to choose let me know how you get on. I'm getting on just fine thank you, as it seems most of the country is now too. I had to use the Overground yesterday. About 10% were not wearing masks. Mostly amongst the demographic most likely to be infected. And they clearly are unaware or d...

Re: Train noise

I'm confused here. If it is the state of the track it should effect Southern fast trains too. Or is the Electrostar better damped for sound as well as comfort? If it's Thameslink class 700 built to a budget that is the issue I can see National Rail trying to save money/inconvenience by saying it is ...

Re: Police crack down on e-scooters

Obviously the headline stats snow motorised vehicles as causing far more death and injury. I’d be interested to see the stats for deaths/serious injury per mile driven though compared to e-scooters and the like. I think being entirely pro or entirely anti any one for of transport is a bit silly. Th...

Well said Mikej. Who overwhelmingly kills & maims pedestrians on pavements? Answer: motor vehicles, motor vehicles & motor vehicles. Only yesterday: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-57934076 Walking up Westwood Hill - which I do several times a week - you would be very unlucky to be distu...

Re: Daniel Morgan Murder

The Home Office & Met have a clear cunning plan. Ignore the findings and hope it will all be forgotten. Which is a pretty corrupt way of handling clear cases of corruption and obstruction. Sorry, but I have lost it with Cressida. She is now the living embodiment that our police service still can...

A short history of this website ....

Anything IT related from the last millennium is not history - it's ancient history so I guess this has a place in the Town Museum! Many of you may know I created the original site and managed it until 2015. So while rummaging for something else Saturday I unearthed an old backup CD which had a copy ...

Re: Police crack down on e-scooters

Will they confiscate the car if the driver is found guilty of failure to stop and/or dangerous driving. And if not, why not?
Indeed why are cars legal while far less dangerous to others and more environmentally friendly modes of transport are outlawed?
History has a story to tell here.

Re: Masks after 19th

Yesterday 48,000 cases. Hence rather more contacts notified by Test & Trace leading to massive amount of the workforce going into quarantine as the toll increases. So Boris has screwed business in the name of saving it. But his next bright idea as trailed in the press today is basically reduce T...

Re: Masks after 19th

Yes, it's going to be doubly confusing next week. Before Covid I enjoyed going up to the National Gallery starting at Sydenham Station. Now if an Overground train comes in first I know I must wear a mask. But if it's a Southern than I need to consult their 'conditions of carriage'. Oh, and if I chan...

Re: Healthy Streets Scorecard London - 2021 Results

That's a very surprising result. One would have expected the reverse with Bromley's wide expanse of green wide leafy streets beyond Penge compared to the South Circular's lethal embrace of Lewisham surrounded by mostly narrow terrace properties with tiny/no front gardens. While LTNs may bring relief...

Re: Masks after 19th

To be fair I don't think any opposition leader can do much to touch Boris. Nothing will change his decision making until the decent intelligent wing of the Conservative Party can see off the CRG grip on his fantasies or if his red wall destroying capabilities come into question. A man who almost sin...

Re: Masks after 19th

Hi all, just wondering if anyone plans to keep wearing a mask after “freedom day” Probably less so. Because I guess I will be avoiding public transport and other public enclosed spaces if the 'freedom for me, bu**er the consequences to everybody else' brigade go rampant. I used the railway yesterda...

Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic

I'm against LTN's as the roads with the pollution and accidents are not on the leafy back roads. I'm strongly in favour of LTN's - particularly this one! I don't live in the Thorpes - which I never thought of as very leafy but I did have to go to Forest Hill a lot. I did it by car because doing it ...

Mais House: not all over yet

Defeat in the High Court has not killed the plan for the development with 50% social housing. The council has taken note of the omissions and errors in the original. A revised and expanded plan goes before Lewisham’s strategic planning committee next week, which has again been recommended for approv...
