Is the sunday 25th walk still going ahead? Would love to join it, if so.

Re: TRAINS THIS SUNDAY: Your Guess?

The Tfl website says the West Croydon branch is shut. So overground and southern trains are coming and going from Sydenham as normal.

if they ever do have to fire a shot. They do NOT do so lightly and I am astonished that any of them volunteer for the role at all. Because it's a form of power they first discover during the heady days of being the bully boy of the playground at school, to the crazy power they then embrace in the m...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound

Perhaps they have chickened out, seeing that pubs are closing everywhere. You would have to be very brave indeed to even consider it. Could you rely on the local community to put enough cash over the bar,to make it a viable business????????? Depends how much the locals want the pub, plus who they are...

I wonder what the other site is. 2 Halfs is an obvious possibility. Or perhaps the Woodman (but nowhere near as well located...)?

Re: Late night construction Kirkdale/Jews Walk??

I would assume it's to minimise disruption? Can you imagine the traffic chaos that would ensue from making kirkdale a one-lane road during the day? And they clearly can't do it after 11 because that would contravene noise regulations. There aren't any noise restrictions before 11pm that I'm aware of...

From here I think I would probably get Southern to Victoria and then the Victoria Line to Euston.

Re: Thinking of moving to Peak Hill Gardens

It's right next to the station, so there'll be a lot of traffic (human and cars) until the early hours - especially on the weekend. I think that the Zanzibar club empties out onto Peak Hill Gardens when it shuts on Friday and Saturday night, but that's from the forum - I don't have first-hand knowle...

Re: Proposed closure of Sydenham police station

I wish people would stop describing the Kirkdale/Dartmouth Road junction as an "industrial estate". It is a tad demoralising for those of us who live in the vicinity. :(

Re: blue mountain

Agreed Poppy. The Blue Mountain and Dolphin seem to get a hard time here. We don't often visit these places due to our young family but when we do we are always grateful they are in Sydenham. On the Monday Bank Hol last week the Dolphin was quite busy and we had a good lunch there. I remember how w...

Re: Tree down on Dartmouth Road

I saw the tree guys working on it at about 9.20 this morning (they hadn't closed the road to buses yet.) That tree has always been an accident waiting to happen and should have been removed ages ago, in my opinion.

Re: has Queen's Motors gone?? Recommend a garage for MOT??

I just used the Kwik Fit on Sydenham Road for the first time today (not for an MOT) and I found them fast, friendly and efficient.

Otherwise, I think ALIB has recommended Dartmouth Road Service Station on a previous thread too.

Re: High Streets and Markets

I agree completely with this. Food markets in particular are very popular - look at the success of Brixton Village on Atlantic Road. The secret is low rents, limited menus and great, reasonably priced food. Agree that you need a certain size to make it viable. But it could be just the trick for Syde...

Re: blue mountain

I like all of the Sydenham coffee shops, but I hardly ever go. I suppose that's because on the rare occasions I visit the high street, my overriding priority is to leave as quickly as possible, rather than linger over a coffee. :( Whereas I often wander into Forest Hill, browse through the shops and...

Re: FREE METAL FOR ALL

I remember thinking that the National Sports Centre in CP Park was ugly when I first clocked it, but over the last 25 years I have grown to love it. I also thought the stage at the CP Park bowl was ugly when I first saw it, but I have now grown rather fond of the 'rusty lap top'. Here is a bit of f...
