I used to love frozen jubblies, they were so fruity tasting. Does anyone remember that tiny little sweet...

Hi Mike, I was born in Sydenham and we moved to Downham when I was about 9 and moved away from there aged 21 when I got married. I hope enjoy this site, some of these guys remember so much about what it used to be like in the 50's and 60's.

I was born in 1947 in Laurel Grove, Lower Sydenham, 2 mins walk from the Man of Kent Public House and I can distinctly remember playing on the bomb sites right opposite our house. There was a smelly old air-raid shelter just by the bridge that crossed the Sydenham end of Southend Lane, can't remembe...

R F Sturges (Steeplejacks)

I think I've asked this some time ago but I would love to contact people that I worked with in Sydenham around 1964 to about 1966. The company was either R F or R W Sturges and were just a couple of doors up from the Criterion Ice Cream parlour. I'm just hoping more people might be logging onto this...

The Man of Kent

 I was so sad to hear that the Man of Kent in Sydenham is closing down, in fact all the local pubs that I remember as a child are all making way for apartments. I was born in Laurel Grove and the Man of Kent was just on the corner of our street and as a teenager I remember going there with Mum ...

famous people in and around Sydenham

Bill Wyman was born in Penge, I had seen him a few times around 1968. I think Manfred Mann was also local to Sydenham/Penge as he used to wait outside Alexander School for Karl King who was a singer with a band called Karl King and the Vendettas, this would have been around 1964. And David Bowie of ...

Does anyone remember Steeplejacks R F Sturges

Does anyone remember R F Sturges Steeplejacks which would have been just a few yards up from the old Criterian Ice Cream Parlour, next door was Harry's bike shop which was there for years. I worked at Sturges from 1963 to about 1965 and have wonderful memories of the people that I worked with. The b...

Sydenham born

I was born in Laurel Grove, Sydenham in 1947, as was my Mother and my two brothers. I remember the old Man of Kent Public House, Cuttmores was a little grocery shop on the corner of our road and I remember vividly going in there with Mum. There was a sweetshop in the main road opposite The Man of Ke...
