Unfortunately the street lighing right outside the church (where cross over is in the road) does not always work. For the last month or so 25% of the time the light has not been on making it extremely dark there.

Even with my freeview box I still only get BBC2 OR Channel 5! I would strongly recommend you check your aerial cabling (and aerial). According to Thames Water ................... if it clears from the 'bottom to the top' it is only air in their pipes, probably due to the amount of work that is currently going on in Sydenham.
