The coal merchant was definitely "Sawyer's", and there was a grocery store called "Clarks", I thought was at the end of Miall road, it was right opposite the toilets. I was about five at the time, so my geography might not be accurate, but I remember the names, Mr. Sawyer used to sit me on his horse...

Anyone else remember the coal merchant, "Sawyer"s", right there at Bell Green. He used a horse and cart to deliver the coal in the 50s. The horse was called "Old Bill".

Old Ma Wandy had a little electrical appliance shop on Dartmouth Road, close to Kirkdale. The kids thought that she was a witch. All the kids used to bang on the door of the shop and run away, she'd come out yelling and shaking her fist. Much fun on the way to and from primary school. She was famous...

I attended Kelvin Grove School in the 50s. Kilmorie was the school on Kirkdale, in front of the main Kelvin Grove building.
