Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
I live on a road in the Thorpes. In my road there a number of owner-occupied houses, quite a lot of flat conversions, some of which are tenanted, some owner-occupied; and a surprising number of houses maintained by by Lewisham council presumably either owned or leased and sub-let. In other words, th...

Re: PFC Penge Food Centre Sydenham Road
We’ve been getting deliveries from Fresh & Fruity/Billings for three weeks now. One of the things that makes self-isolating bearable. I gather they are pretty busy when they are open, so a big cheer to Mera and her family/staff for doing this, and the volunteer delivery people as well. As for PF...

Re: Dog friendly cafes in Sydenham or Forest Hill
Went to Archie Parker with the mutt as per recommendation. Lovely! Warm welcome from the staff and a tasty sandwich, and excellent coffee. (Brown & Green are let down by their execrable coffee)

Dog friendly cafes in Sydenham or Forest Hill
Apart from Brown and Green’s in Mayow Park and local pubs, are any of the local cafes/greasy spoons dog- friendly?

Forest Hill Pools
Forest Hill Pools are looking increasingly neglected, with the external access litter-strewn and internally paint flaking off the ceiling in the reception area, the changing rooms and loos on the first floor closed with no sign of the promised “upgrading” works and the ground floor changing rooms an...

Interesting sight over Mayow Park this afternoon. 3 or 4 Chinooks followed by at least 6 single- rotor helicopters. Not in typical British livery- US Maine Corps? Maybe because of a certain visitor next week?

Re: DRAGONFLY YOGA SYDENHAM OPENING
Whatever the merits or otherwise of this business, I agree that the sign is far too big and intrusive and really detracts from what was the best new building on the High Street.

Re: Supreme Fish Bar
Had fish 'n chips from there on Friday night. Pretty much back to the high standard maintained by the previous management. The power of social media and the willingness of the current owners to listen to feedback seems to have done the job!

Yep, and a pain in the ass losing direct Charing X services has been ever since. Because we all wanted to go to Whitechapel A matter of personal preference- I much prefer having direct trains to Whitechapel, Shoreditch and Highbury and don't miss the direct Charing Cross service at all. But of cour...

Another long-standing fan of Supreme fish 'n chip shop. Went there last Friday. Very disappointed. Might have to trek up to Penge East in future, though I never thought their offering was as good as Supreme.

Re: New plans for Calabash of Culture site
A significant proportion of lamb and chicken sold in the UK is halal, some estimates put the proportions at 51% & 30% respectively. All the major supermarkets publish their policies on halal meat as do the major fast food chains such as Nando's and McDonalds.. McDonalds don't use halal meat, Nan...

Re: Fox in house
I saw a fox in the garden last summer. About 2 seconds before it was spotted by my (quite large) Jack Russell terrier. The fox managed to scramble under the fence and release itself from the dog which had it by the throat. I doubt it survived. The dog was pretty mental for a week afterwards. So, get...

Re: Disease carrying slugs hit Sydenham
https://www.express.co.uk/news/nature/718783/slug-disease-pets-spreading-warning It's those bloody foreigners again! There are at least 25 species of slug found in the UK. Most of them are potentially vectors for lungworms. Lungworm is a nasty and potentially fatal disease of dogs but monthly appli...

Interesting piece in today's Guardian about Lidl and other supermarket chains wanting to open lots more stores in the London area and getting past local authority planning by building stores with affordable flats above. I imagine Aldi could be just as receptive if it meant that they would get the go...

Re: New St Christopher's Charity Shop
To open in the old betting shop on the corner of Newlands Park. I for one think that St Christopher's is an outstanding Hospice and Charitable organisation and I fully support their cause and good work. However Sydenham is now a high street of Charity Shops, Estate Agents and Pound Shops. It seems ...
