New personal trainer - offering a taster for a tenner

Hey fitness fans! (And gym dodgers) I’ve just qualified as a personal trainer and I need to spread the word so I’m offering my Sydenham neighbours a 30-minute taster session for a tenner - I'm level 3 PT and first aid qualified and fully insured - I'm not shouty - Train in your home - I'll bring all...

Re: New small coffee shop inside Dragonfly Yoga

If you think it looks intimidating, pop in. I can guarantee you a friendly hello and a tour, because I'm one of the volunteers there. I've been going since the first week it opened and it's building up a nice community. I think their first priority was to get the classes up and running (they're grea...

Re: Area information

I live round the corner and it's a really nice road. When we moved in, neighbours knocked on the door and brought us cake. One woman said there might be a problem with burglaries, but we haven't seen any evidence of that. I think there'll always been transactions going on in most parts of London. It...

I just spoke to someone at Glendale. They weren't aware, but said they'd get someone to take a look.

A really nice postie turned up with everything that was missing from the last few days at around 11.30. He was very apologetic!

Re: Sushi of Sydenham

Went in for lunch yesterday and it was brilliant. Good bento boxes. The service was good too, especially when we asked for fish-free sushi! They were very good about it. Delicious.

Vanquis credit card hawkers on high street

I was pestered by a pair of Vanquis loan hawkers on the high street on Monday. As much as I was tempted by their 1000% interest rates, it would be nice to have our local pitches occupied by a company that's not a glorified pay day loan shark.

Anyone know who gives permission for them to be there?

Looks like another place is about to open on Kirkdale - La Shakes? It's near the Clothes For Causes shop. Anyone know what it is? Mmmm... milkshakes?

Brilliant new kids' shoe shop

Popped into Emmanuelle Marshall shoes on Dartmouth Road and it's ace. The lady who runs it is lovely (she used to fit shoes in the East Dulwich Warehouse), she persuaded my reluctant toddler to get her feet measured and she has loads of styles that aren't the usual boring colours for kids. It's a bi...

Re: The Windmill has closed down

There seems to be a big difference in how people feel if they've just moved here. Obviously, people are moving into Sydenham because they like it. Others seem proud to say it'll 'never be gentrified'. The houses are expensive now, so maybe some people are looking towards gentrification, whatever you...

Re: WILDTHINGS WEEKENDS

I took my 5 and 2-year-old to this today and it was lovely. We'd definitely recommend it if you're at a loose end tomorrow. We loved Cat and her songs, but then my 5-year-old decided she might want to go home when she saw a bee. That appreciation of nature isn't going to be built in a day! Great pla...

We went to Eynsford yesterday - lovely, friendly tea rooms, a ford to paddle in, a castle and some riverside pubs. It only took 40 minutes - out on the A20.

Ha, I just came on here to ask the same question.

It says something about Kirkdale being 'Sydenham's original High St'.

They are lovely. What's it all about?

Japanese Knotweed, anyone?

Hello there, people of Sydenham I just moved into the area a month ago and I'm loving it. What I'm not loving is reports from neighbours of Japanese Knotweed in our gardens. Has anyone had experience of it? I've done some light Googling and discovered May is the time when it grows like, er, Japanese...

Re: Half-term activities

That sounds great. We're new to the area - hello! Does anyone have any good ideas of what to do with a 2 and 4-year-old during half term? Someone told me about a soft play place on Wells Park Road, but I can't find any info. Loving it round here so far, but next week we're up for a proper exploratio...
