Re: sydenham needs an uplifting

I think the people on this thread are (me included) all clearly middle class and so have an interest in gentrification to make our houses worth more. Going back way up to the top, most of Sydenham lives in social housing or at the bottom of the PRS and if they eat out it won't be in On the Hoof - t...

Urgently need a painter & decorator!

Hi there - hope this is posted in the right bit. Can anyone recommend me a reliable painter/decorator who could do a job quickly for me in Sydenham? A one bedroomed flat with high ceilings. Have already started it but am unable to finish it myself. The lounge, bedroom and hallway have had one coat a...

Re: Sydenham High St Stabbing

I assume the high street is now open: TFL are saying local buses are back on their normal routes. Comments on twitter suggest that three guys jumped out of a car and attacked the youth. Just terrible. Shocking in broad daylight. Do we know how the victim is? When I picked my daughter up from nurser...

Re: New World Record Attempt in Sydenham Rd Sun 8 March!

You may be delighted, but I'm sure all the Sydenham residents who will be inconvenienced by this stunt will not be. There are several large parks in Sydenham which could have accommodated something like this, but instead you choose to close the only main thoroughfare in the area. I dread to think of...

Re: Very bad signal in Sydenham?!

When I lived on Bishopsthorpe my mobile signal (3) was absolutely shocking - I was lucky if I got one bar and it was impossible to make/receive calls inside the flat. I called 3 in frustration after a few months of this and they supplied me with something called a Home Signal Box, with which my mobi...

Thank you from the Incredible Sax Band

On behalf of the Incredible Sax Band, can I say thanks to everyone who came to Venner Square see our teaser set this morning in what threatened to be rather inclement weather! We had a fantastic time and it was great to be able to kick off the festival for 2014 (especially for me as a Sydenham resid...

Aww no, really sorry to hear that. I'll keep an eye out. Have you tried contacting Mayow Vets? I'd imagine someone would take her there if she was found.

Re: Gardener needed urgently!

Thanks Annie - Austin came round to check it out over the weekend and he's coming on Wednesday to do the job. Nice guy, so fingers crossed. Nat, I would have checked out George too but his website seems to indicate that he's a tree surgeon and doesn't say anything about gardening or lawns. I'll keep...

Gardener needed urgently!

Can anyone recommend a local gardener please? I know Fernando comes recommended here but he doesn't have his own transport (or mower) so isn't any good to me for cutting the lawn unfortunately as he seems like a really nice bloke! But I need someone who can come round and cut a rather big lawn and t...

Re: Local handyman?

Does this mean you have found somewhere to live in Sydenham, Lisa? Hope so :D Well, after a fashion. I'm down in Lower Sydenham/Bellingham, just off Worsley Bridge, but it's not a good situation. It was hobson's choice, sadly. I'm hoping one day to be able to move back up closer to town; I'm really...

Re: Catsitter needed

I use Julia at Paws Pals and I've always been extremely happy with the service, even at short notice when I had to spend a night in hospital recently and she was there like a shot to sort the cats out for me. They're based up on Sydenham Hill. http://www.pawspals.co.uk/

Local handyman?

I'm looking for a handyman in Sydenham who could come and install a cat flap for me. Can anyone recommend someone who'll do a reliable job and won't charge the earth? Thanks!

Re: Help needed to stay in Sydenham...

I'm 42 years old and disabled. Trust me, I can not do a houseshare. I do appreciate the suggestion but it just not an option for me I'm afraid. I need my own place. I'm perfectly capable of paying for my own place - I'm entitled to the LHA rate for a 2-bedroomed flat so I can have a carer in overnig...

Re: Help needed to stay in Sydenham...

I can't do shared ownership sadly - I'm not working because of my disability/medical condition; I'm on ESA, which is why nobody will accept me. Unfortunately that also disqualifies me from owning because I won't be able to get a mortgage. I just need a landlord who'll be willing to rent to me - the ...

Re: Help needed to stay in Sydenham...

I have, although they haven't been very helpful. I need to get back to them on Monday; I spoke to them twice on the phone last week and two separate people said they would send me the forms, but I haven't received anything. I had held off for a couple of days because I thought I had a potential down...

Re: Help needed to stay in Sydenham...

Still haven't found anywhere. Can anyone recommend any avenues I might try locally? Lettings agents are no good to me because I'm getting housing benefit and they won't accept me. I'm scouring Gumtree every day for private rentals but can't find anything in Sydenham at all - nobody seems to be adver...
