If you go down to Dacres Wood this Saturday

... it won't, hopefully be too much of a surprise that we're having an Open Day, because for the last few years we've been opening up the reserve on the last Saturday of the month, 1.00 - 4.00 except in winter. And except for last month, when unexpectedly all of our Friends group had other commitmen...

Sorry – no Dacres Wood Open Day tomorrow

We like to open the Dacres Wood Nature Reserve the last Saturday of each month, but sadly we can't do so tomorrow. Really sorry about this, because there are lots of other good things happening at the reserve.

Re: Birds of prey in Sydenham

Sadly, Sparticus, Sparrowhawks appear to be a bit Nimbyish - it's probably in their genes :D Sparrowhawks require woodland, or at least a small clump of trees, for nesting. Their territories are well spaced - pairs do not tolerate another nest close by. The distance between each nest varies ranges f...

Re: Frogspawn?

One chilly sparrowhawk http://dacreswood.org.uk/wp-content/gallery/march-13-16-2016/SparrowHawk.jpg According to Paul, leading the walk, if it hadn't been cold and misty, it wouldn't have stayed perched up there, offering us all a good view - and my first actual sighting of one. Moving on to Mayow P...

Re: Frogspawn?

We had a good bird walk this morning, the highlight probably seeing a sparrow hawk perched high up in one of the Turkey oaks in Dacres Wood. We also had some lovely clear views of green woodpeckers - three of them - on one of the ancient oaks in Mayow Park. Hopefully photos to come. We also heard, a...
