Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic

If the road closure was intended to increase pedestrianism and cycling, I haven't noticed many of either and certainly no increase. It is quieter and noticeably much less fumy (especially while windows are open) without twice daily traffic queues which is good for me on the face of it. However, if ...

Re: SCAMS

I've received numerous calls from an officer ??? (can never catch the name) saying that I owe HMRC money and that if I don't contact them by pressing/contacting them a warrant will be issued for my arrest. Needless to say I am still waiting...I never click on anything...if in doubt find an official...

Re: Outrageous Acorn Estate Agents

Just hearing from a neighbour that someone, presumably paid for by Acorn Estate agents, went into their front garden and posted a board saying "LET BY ACORN". Totally untrue, as they admitted when some other neighbours rang to complain. Didn't Lee Newham organise some action a few years back encour...

Re: Masks

Face Masks are mandatory on Public Transport from MONDAY, also just got an email from Uber saying the same.

They are not mandatory yet, or in other places. Wise to wear one, Yes.. but not everyone is wise :)

Re: Local public transport and face coverings

Interesting blend of outcomes on a trip today. The 356 is restricted to 8 passengers. The 185 service appears to have no restrictions, no touch in and front doors still locked out. I don't know those routes, but perhaps one route is busier than the other so they have different restrictions? Awkward...

Re: Masks

I ordered some from Amazon to wear. I shop for my 70 year old diabetic mother, so it was important to me to not catch nor pass on anything.. whilst they may not be 100% I feel I am doing all I can. As more people go back to work, the likelyhood of infection rising again seemed viable, so getting som...

Re: Beaulie Avenue fire

I saw the fire engine going up there as I was making my way to my car (delivering mum's shopping), drove up westwood hill and the place was well ablaze, I do hope everyone is okay. Westwood hill was closed on my way back about 3pm, traffic diverted around Jews Walk area.

Re: PFC Penge Food Centre Sydenham Road

@syenhamboy we're really very lucky in this neck of the woods to have a genuine high street with traditional shops. We are indeed. Even before the crisis I used to get all my mum's meat & veg from Billings and the greengrocer and take it over. Now of course I am doing all her shopping as she is in ...

Re: Industrial sounding noise in the air

I have sometimes late at night if its too warm and open my bedroom window, that I hear a "buzzing" sound, higher pitch... and it goes off after a while. Never figured out what it is, but it is distant but then I live at Cobbs Corner at the bottom of westwood hill. Could be the same thing?

Re: Contactless Payments

Some of course were not aware that the level had to be adjusted by them - and I wonder of this new maximum of £45 will require some to adjust their payment machines locally. Or will card machine suppliers roll-out a universal update, therefore reducing what our local traders will have to do. Edited...

Contactless Card Payments

Just to let you all know that as of today, the contactless card limit has been increased to £45. It may take a while for all terminals in stores to update, but you should find it rolling out quite quickly. Whilst this was originally introduced to reduce the use of cash during the Covid-19 period, it...

Re: Applause for the NHS

I live opposite the greyhound and many were out clapping or at their windows. Car drivers tooting horns, passengers clapping and whooping. It was a very emotional experience. What a shame that it has taken this crisis for everyone to appreciate each other and those that care for us.

A couple of Cash Machine warnings

From the Sydenham Facebook page:- 1. Be careful if using cash machines on the high street. 3 young guys just snatched money off a guy using the Barclays atm. They ran off and hid but I just saw them come out of hiding and head up newlands Park 2. Honor Oak Post office cash machine seems to be fitted...

Re: 75 and 194 buses on diversion

Add to the mess that the bus app on mobile was showing Zero buses on both routes in sydenham so my mate ended up getting an uber home thinking the buses were not running at all.... what a total F*k up.
