Re: Earlesthorpe/Thorpes - schools help please!

I don't think the religious schools come up on the catchment map? Anyway, St Barts is a good school and I imagine you would geographically have a good chance of getting a place there.
I liked Adamsrill when I went to the open day there and friends with kids there are very happy with it.

Only ever eaten in Hibagon the once, but we routinely order deliveries from there. I suspect they do a lot of deliveries

Bluegrass music at the Golden Lion

According to the Folk London website there is a bluegrass night, first Monday of the month, at the Golden Lion. Suppose this must be fairly new, might pop along with my fiddle and banjo...

Re: Knighton Park Road

I've heard it all now. Maybe you should retitle this thread 'The Burning Place'. It's interesting to trace the trajectory of your posts in this thread John, moving through complaints about parking, the aesthetic appearance of the building, that a yoga studio isn't a 'proper shop', some odd query abo...

Re: The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park

These safety concerns apply to any unattended body of water though, and the same points can be made about a bathtub. You could make the same points about any lake or pond in the UK. Yes, a kid could drown at Beckenham Place Park, just as they could if they ran into the Thames if they were out mudlar...

Shouldn't you be raising this with the appropriate authorities, given that you would hate to be proved right but know you shall be?

Re: Knighton Park Road

It simply is not true to say that the 'purpose' of a balcony space is to provide an escape in the event of fire. There are no laws or planning regulations suggesting this. I've found a few Lewisham and Bromley housing-design recommendation documents via google and can't see anything about fire safet...

It would appear that all the flats have been dedicated to "social housing"
That's good news; London needs more and many developers do their utmost to wriggle out of providing it.

wow I'm surprised to see from the plans that this building was designed by Pollard Thomas Edwards. They are award-winning architects who have made some really good buildings in London and nationally. :(

Re: Open mic / jam nights

Apart from the ones mentioned above... The open mic night at the Paxton Centre (Crystal Palace/Anerley-ish) is very well regarded. A few others in Crystal Palace, come to think of it. I think the Crooked Billet in Penge was planning on doing an open mic night, dunno whether it ever came to anything....

Good pizza, seemed to be a thinner crust to other sourdough places. Very good tomato and rosemary garlic bread. Liked it.

Only seats 40 people, I notice. Seemed to be doing a brisk trade in deliveries though.

Jam night 4th April (and other music) at the Crooked Billet

No useful details given (drumkit? PA? guitar amps?) but there's the first of a series of jam sessions taking place at Penge's Crooked Billet pub soon: "We shall be hosting our very first Jam night on Thursday 4 th April . It would be great to see what musical talents Penge holds . 9pm start" I get t...

Black Tower art gallery, Bell Green

I remember a friend mentioning he was going to a gig by Charles Hayward, the drummer from This Heat, at a place called 'Black Tower' in Sydenham, a year or so ago. At the time, Google drew a blank. But I've just found the place, thanks to a notice on Penge Tourist Board. Here are the details of thei...

Re: Lewisham nighttime economy consultation - have your say!

Yes I noticed one or two of those. I don’t think they were particularly well promoted though as I recall the on the hoof ones were a buy a ticket and eat a sit down meal kind of thing. Good examples of how not to do things perhaps (tho as it happens I think the on the hoof ones were successful enoug...

Re: Lewisham nighttime economy consultation - have your say!

Yes JMLF, that's the sort of thing that definitely would do well. You see a lot of it in Brixton, Boxpark Croydon and in Tooting's covered market now. Of the 3 recent additions to Sydnenham's high street - Nandos, Greyhound and Ignition - it's Ignition that strikes me as the closest to that; it's th...

"I love seeing the growth of good venues and things to do in Sydenham of a night-time. The resurrection of the lively landmark Greyhound Pub at Cobbs Corner and the arrival of the thriving comedy venue The Poodle Club show that the improvement is real." What with the Ignition Brewery too, hopefully ...

Re: School catchment areas

I live around there and worried about the same thing, but when I went to the open days I felt a lot more positive about it. A lot of the kids around the area you mention go to St Barts (where ours goes). As it's a CofE school it doesn't register on the catchments map but in practice it has a reasona...

Re: Sydenham Market

I think a farmer's market would work if you went all out: it's a shame that whoveritwas proposing one at the Golden Lion a year or two ago never got that going... a farmer's market needs a bit more space than those high-street squares. The food markets at Brockley/Lewisham and Brixton are excellent ...
