Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park

I'm resurrecting this petition signature request since it seems that only some 680 people have signed the petition so far. I'm amazed that signatures aren't in the multiples of thousands. Clearly the message won't be widely heard or aired and debated at this rate. Maybe people buy weedkillers simply...

Re: Urgently needed! Strong people to lift

When I was stronger, even as a woman I could move some things by tilting backwards and rolling as some things have back wheels, or walking them, with the addition of Mr Sheen to pave the way to slide them but clean it off promptly as obviously slippery). Not heavy things like a washing machine with ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2018.

John H, the suspected leaks I've reported were on Sydenham Road. However, I was told that they first came with air-monitoring hand gadgets to determine if a leak was indeed occurring (I did actually see them doing this as I was coincidentally out shopping) so a leak must have been confirmed before a...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2018.

John H. I agree absolutely about their making the then new natural gas smelly on purpose (cos I know they did that). Strangely, some (a lot of?) people can't or don't smell gas as I can and do. I've reported suspected leaks a couple of times, then to see a road or pavement dug up shortly afterwards....

Happy Easter from me too.

Nice day for a celebration, a double one as it's the Queen's birthday also. Cheers!

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park

Saluting me or other petition signers or the petition starter is merely scratching the surface for as long as Round-up is officially deemed safe. That is in the hands of government/parliament. Private Members' Bills aren't allotted much parliamentary time, but perhaps an MP somewhere in the UK will ...

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park

Holaquease, as said I am wholly against the use of Round-up unless absolutely necessary, so to me using it on everyday weeds is lunacy. Petition signed. I hope others will sign it too.

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park

What do you propose they do instead? Personally I think a more natural approach would be preferable. Giz a hint. What would a natural approach be that works for below ground invasive root systems where even if dug out to several feet depth (like mare's tail) needs only 1" left to re-sprout, di...

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park

I've read distressingly condemnatory reports from the US about the adverse knock-on effects of Round-up where used, although in context in large quantity and more indiscriminately than one would use it if to eliminate individual or specific shrubs or growths. Echoing what alywin asks, what to do if ...

Re: Best Breakfast in Sydenham

The Hill Top Cafe (opposite The Greyhound) has daily and frequent regulars and their Full English platefuls do look good. A lot of retired people are fairly regular breakfast or lunch eaters at cafes too incidentally, so it's worth keeping an eye on which are the busy ones.

Yes, but it's not an ongoing annual charge that a householder pays for maintenance assuming the road is adopted, or at least the new house I bought where the road was adopted carried no such obligation. If you are paying annual road maintenance charges then it's outwith my sphere of knowledge as to...

Re: Do not use this section for Wanted or Offer requests

simon, I suppose logically the Wanted and Offers relate to a specific need or service by a particular poster which can receive recommendations or adverts whereas a contribution-based experiential rundown of several outlets or services is a promotion of Sydenham generally. As to why it was decided th...

Re: LBC via Freeview 732 has stopped working

Hi JGD. Yes, thanks. It turned out that the frequency move was temporary, so moved back to the old ones bringing a couple of problems with it which LBC "were aware of". About a week after it was back on the original channels, the sound magically reappeared but it still recorded only silenc...

Re: Girton Road car park - introduction of parking charges

The intention used to be "free to serve the High Street" so two hours free does seem to align to that. As it's likely true that many all-dayers would avoid the charge if they could park on a nearby street, why can't there be offered (or offered also) a daily charge or weekly charge that is...

Re: Sydenham Post Office to close for refurbishment

Thanks KEVD. Good news and thankfully it's still there. FWIW I don't recall many times in the past when more than three counters were manned. I suppose the question now is how many of the new three counters will be manned at busy times. I'd agree that it'd be nice if the self service machines weren'...

Re: Urgent warning: plant thieves in the area

Most who forage elsewhere where plants are not protected that I know are fully aware that whole plants are never taken, only clippings or perennial fruits that some plants/bushes produce. Removing whole domestic plants from private gardens ostensibly for study sounds more like theft to me and hopefu...
