I have just been given some scans of the Crystal Palace, they were taken by a local photographer called John Mantle. John also made a lot of cine films during the 30s of Beckenham. You can find them here http://www.beckenhamhistory.co.uk/flashNifties/gallery4.html and select Crystal Palace 2 from th...

Perhaps some people are under the impression that not much was happening in Penge before the enclosure and the arrival of the Crystal Palace. It's interesting to compare these earlier maps of 1745 and 1799: http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/sydenham/Penge1745.jpg http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/syden...

Festival Of Empire and the Paxton Arms Hotel.
The Paxton Arms Hotel played host to the Indian contingent who set up their part in the exhibition. They stayed for a total of 6 weeks in the Hotel. When they left they presented the landlandy with an ivory thermometer as a leaving gift. Here is an image of the gift http://www.beckenhamhistory.co.uk...

This is a scan of one of two postcards, http://www.beckenhamhistory.co.uk/pallight.jpg I am informed that the owner of the Chemist shop, who, was a keen photographer took them from his window. His shop was next to the Post Office in Beckenham Road, on the corner of Barnmead Rd. Without looking at Ke...

Many thanks for all your input and conformation that the image is indeed a Delamotte. I was a bit unsure about the copyright on Delamotte images. The image itself shows St Johns Church and the fields that circled Penge at that time. The population was obviously boosted by the navies who worked at Th...

Is this a Delamotte?
I have this glass lantern slide and I think it is a Delamotte, I do not know much about Delamotte so I would be grateful for any assistance in identifying it. Also is there any complex copyright on these images?
