Re: Mayow road/Sydenham road crossing.

I don't get the logic. A zebra crossing is not time limited. Traffic lights are. If you are disabled and slow then drivers may be seeing a green rather than you.As we know, "Proceed with Caution" exists only in the Highway Code.Plus, if you were right Robin, it was not the only fact given at the ti...

Re: Mayow road/Sydenham road crossing.

The Council don't have any intention to tackle the chronic through traffic problem that Sydenham has. That's why the timings at this junction are massively in favour of the motor phases. Unlike lots of other, more progressive areas of London and the UK, pedestrians are second class citizens on Syden...

Re: Begging outside Sainsbury's local

I agree with stuart and The Clown.

If you are seriously concerned about homelessness and destitution, try to do something that helps. Seeking to vilify these people on the basis of tabloid sensationalism and the poor behaviour of a minority is nothing short of bigotry.

Re: Why high streets die

Surely two issues here: 1 - Was the red route parking bay used legally or illegally? If the latter you deserve to be fined and have nothing to complain about. If the former then submit a challenge and get it overturned. 2 - Is parking enforcement killing the high street? No, of course not. A combina...

Re: 20 mph speed limits

TFL's own analysis shows that there are many, many KSIs every year in London where the person walking across the road is not at fault. So not only is the statement pretty appalling victim blaming, it is also just fundamentally incorrect.

Re: Lewisham council tax rise

As far as Council Tax is concerned, you have been paying the same and getting less, because Central Government has consistently cut local government funding. So, if you want more, either the Government gives the council more or the council puts up council tax. At least Council Tax has a vague link t...

Re: 20 mph speed limits

Lawrie Park Rd shouldn't even be a thru route. Instead it is allowed to be a magnet for rat runners with no regard to those actually living in the surrounding streets. It wouldn't cost the boroughs any serious money to put a couple of bus sensitive bollards in halfway down. A Heretic writes...

Re: 20 mph speed limits

You should look up and contact Tom Kearney @comadad - He may have the info you're looking for. If not he'll certainly have already tried and have been through all the arguments why it hasn't been released (spoiler alert: Abellio will be hiding behind DPA legislation).

Re: 20 mph speed limits

Is there some common ground that we can find here? For example, do we agree that London has a problem with road safety? And do we agree that a major component of that problem is excessive speed? There is plenty of evidence to back up both of those positions. So if speed restrictions are not the answ...

Re: 20 mph speed limits

A timely study of the 20mph zone introduced in Bristol: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-43050841 There is a debate to be had about which streets and roads are appropriate as 20mph zones. And I'm definitely not in favour of a blanket approach. But on any street on which people live and w...

Re: New houses proposed

If you believe stuart should sell his house to solve the housing problems then you also believe that Nigel should head to Raqqa with a rifle to solve the ISIS problem.

I know the concept of Government's actually delivering services is terribly unfashionable these days but this thread

Re: 2018 wish list

Would you settle for a sub-Utopian start in 2018 of, say, making Sydenham Road traffic free on Summer Sundays between 10 & 6pm? Or to be more neighbourly, alternate with Penge? Tables, food and drink spilling across the road? Sounds good to me. Give people a taste of what could be and maybe they wi...

Re: 2018 wish list

Excellent. We all throw our rubbish over the fence into our neighbour's garden. To be honest Robin, I'm not being entirely serious about the impacts on FH. Obviously that would be very difficult and community objections would probably be enough to scupper any serious scheme in the real world. But i...

Re: 2018 wish list

Forest Hill is where the traffic is. Sorry, I should re-word that. Forest Hill is where Sydenham's through traffic should be. Have you ever tried driving along London Road or Dartmouth Road during the rush hour? Yes, it's awful. There are too many people making short journeys by car. That's why thr...

Re: 2018 wish list

Only the terminally lazy lose out. What's not to like? What's not to like is it remains a through road. Forest Hill is on the South Circular, that's where the traffic should be. Anything else is fiddling at the edges. There are only negative externalities for Sydenham from the through traffic, only...

Re: 2018 wish list

My fundamental wish would be that Sydenham Road wasn't a TFL through route. Been saying this for years. No through road except buses, access and cycles from the Greyhound roundabout to Dartmouth Rd. And no on street parking on the High St except disabled and time limited loading. Orford Rd in Walth...

Yes, well said Stuart

There is inevitably going to be disruption when works are ongoing - But these changes are clearly for the better so people should try to be more patient.
