Re: 2018 wish list

Excellent. We all throw our rubbish over the fence into our neighbour's garden. To be honest Robin, I'm not being entirely serious about the impacts on FH. Obviously that would be very difficult and community objections would probably be enough to scupper any serious scheme in the real world. But i...

Re: 2018 wish list

Forest Hill is where the traffic is. Sorry, I should re-word that. Forest Hill is where Sydenham's through traffic should be. Have you ever tried driving along London Road or Dartmouth Road during the rush hour? Yes, it's awful. There are too many people making short journeys by car. That's why thr...

Re: 2018 wish list

Only the terminally lazy lose out. What's not to like? What's not to like is it remains a through road. Forest Hill is on the South Circular, that's where the traffic should be. Anything else is fiddling at the edges. There are only negative externalities for Sydenham from the through traffic, only...

Re: 2018 wish list

My fundamental wish would be that Sydenham Road wasn't a TFL through route. Been saying this for years. No through road except buses, access and cycles from the Greyhound roundabout to Dartmouth Rd. And no on street parking on the High St except disabled and time limited loading. Orford Rd in Walth...

Re: What *are* they doing to Dartmouth Road?

Yes, well said Stuart

There is inevitably going to be disruption when works are ongoing - But these changes are clearly for the better so people should try to be more patient.

Re: Sydenham too tatty for Caffe Nero

It's also unbelievably naff. Café Nero's "offer" is like a coffee shop from the late 90s. Why would you want to welcome such mediocrity to the town?

Re: Man killed by car in Mayow Road

I'm happy to go out on a limb and predict that the driver was at fault and further predict that he/she will not be charged and/or prosecuted. If I'm wrong I'll come back on here and apologise. How about "Man killed after car driven into him"? That at least brings the human involvement into it. As yo...

Re: Man killed by car in Mayow Road

Stop giving inanimate objects agency. It might help to de-normalise road violence. Language is important.

Re: Sydenham too tatty for Caffe Nero

I'm with you on this Rod. Sydenham has lots of nice, independent coffee shops and plenty of character. Café Nero does bad coffee and worse pastries. You should be glad they don't want to open in Sydenham.

Now if we could just do something about that road...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill

Yes, but if you look at the designs, to go straight on you will need to pull out across the car behind you to navigate right onto the island to get onto the cycle track. i.e they've made it more awkward and dangerous than it is at the moment.

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill

Same story all over London. Although we might disagree on the correct remedy for Maple Road. If you look at the map it is blindingly obvious that it shouldn't be a through road at all.

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill

It's well intentioned. I have some sympathy with the people trying to get stuff like this built. One of the problems is British traffic regulations just don't exist yet to properly build the type of scheme pictured earlier in the thread. So that design is still on a test bed in Bedford somewhere whi...

Re: Deliveroo

These things should definitely be encouraged. But as mentioned upthread, services like Uber Eats and Deliveroo bring real ethical concerns with they way they treat their "employees". Perhaps we could divert some energy to enabling consumers to easily get to and from the High St by low tech, green me...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill

I just hope no one is tempted to do something stupid as a result. And I will be sure to be doing it by car when dark. If they couldn't get cyclists to agree why didn't they just do nothing? Doing nothing not an option when there is Quietway money to be grabbed. Doing something actually good also no...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill

Nope that's the absolute opposite* of a 'Dutch' roundabout As is what they are building on the parade: http://www.2.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/4008/crystal_palace_parade The angles at the crossing points are wrong and there is ambiguous priority throughout. I'm assuming no actual cyclists ...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Sydenham Hill

So day one of the above I expect to see chaos there and the usual complaints here. But we have to start from somewhere if we are ever to see Crystal Palace Parade become other than an irritating car park at peak times and a race track at others. Rome wasn't built in a day. But how many months to bu...
