Re: Another person on the line at Penge East

I was at Penge East when I saw the Air Ambulance going over - it certainly looked as though it was headed in the direction of Penge West or thereabouts - and then when I was checking National Rail I saw that there were delays to trains between London Bridge and Croydon, so feared the worst :(

Re: Another person on the line at Penge East

Third? :( I knew of one other, but not two.

The poor family and friends. Let's not forget the train driver - and station staff, police, firefighters ... too.

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park

Japanese Knotweed is unlikely to appear in a new site as it rarely sets seed in this country. Hmm, that's debatable. It's illegal to allow it to spread: but that doesn't mean that someone won't, in the same way that they might go and dump their cuttings rather than burn them. (And glyphosate does w...

Re: Live Sydenham Train Departures

Came in very handy this afternoon :( - although I couldn't work out whether it was actually showing any services on the Orpington line or not. Certainly there was no sign of Orpington-bound trains - I'd have expected a "cancelled" notice.

Re: Live Sydenham Train Departures

I usually use realtimetrains, but this could be useful too, so thanks (I go off Penge East, but it's only one stop away from Syd Hill anyway). I'll save it to Firefox :)

I got off the bus in Beckenham Road, Beckenham some 2 1/2 hours ago and almost gagged on the smoke, it was so thick. Hoping they're managing to get the fire under control by now.

Oh dear, so sorry. I presume you were insured - and just as importantly, weren't in it at the time?

The same thing happened to someone's car when a tree came down in Venner Road, last year or maybe the year before.

I stand by my comment on pricing. Mamma Doughs specials come in at £12, while the dearest pizzas at Franca Manca are £8.75, at Bona £10.90 and at Four Hundred Rabbits £10.50.
Wow. The pizzas at Pizza Express are rather more expensive than those!

Re: Beckenham Beacon Urgent Care Centre

Best of luck then, Parker! OTOH, you can also get appointments with a GP there if your own surgery is overbooked, but only if your surgery has an agreement with them. (I've done it a couple of times when I've needed to see someone urgently and continuity of care wasn't a particular concern). I guess...

Re: Working on the railway?

Just realised that the noise I can hear out the back is likely to be more railway engineering works (Penge East line), despite the fact that it feels as though it's coming from 180° the wrong direction! Thank heavens for double glazing, is all I can say.

Re: Current state of the property market in Sydenham

I've now realised that my earlier post was technically ambiguous. But I'd have thought it wouldn't have been too difficult to guess what I meant. Those who argued for the retention of the gasholders (like those who argued against Brexit) lost the argument. So obviously they should now shut up and l...

Re: Current state of the property market in Sydenham

I definitely got the feeling the majority of research on the area had been done by skimming this forum :( - I certainly didn't get the feeling that there was any first-hand experience talking. A huge proportion was taken up by the history of Sydenham which was essentially labelling who is on the Syd...
