GOOD behaviour on 202 bus

Well, we have threads about bad behaviour on buses, so I thought I'd counteract the general impression a bit :). Yesterday, I got on a busy 202 bus in the High Street, travelling down towards Sainsbury's. I was pleased to note a number of instances of a) children being moved onto accompanying adult'...

Re: WHAT IF WE DID THIS TO ATTRACT BUSINESS TO SYDENHAM?

Who - if anyone - is actually in charge of business development in Sydenham? I think Penge has (or had) a town centre manager, but Sydenham, of course, is a different council and I've no idea how things work there.

Re: Zebra Crossing on the Bridge by Sydenham Station

I thought the zebra was fairly recent, actually? I must admit that I avoid using it, having seen the way drivers approach it. There really needs to be a crossing of the High Street somewhere around Newlands Park, though: I was amazed when I crossed it yesterday to find that there was only a built-up...

Re: 'Stinky Chicken' from Sainsburys?

I very rarely buy meat from supermarket butchers at all: I had one bad experience with Penge, some years ago, when I bought some "last day" meat from the meat counter, all bagged up and labelled. When I got it home, it was already starting to discolour. Mind you, if I bother looking hard enough, I f...

Bromley's "Continental" Market

Okay, I know it's geographically a bit OT, but I briefly popped into Bromley today and was surprised at the extent of the "Continental" market - from the far end of the Market Square right down to the end of the pedestrian zone. Not really very continental compared with others I've seen elsewhere - ...

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

What about warnings yesterday that 'hundreds of rioters were meeting at Crystal Palace Park' ? Any truth or just rumours? I don't think so. I had a look on the Crystal Palace forum, the East Dulwich forum, the Forest Hill forum, and couldn't confirm anything. This may possibly have been the same mo...

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

I know Westminster Council has an online resource for local businesses etc. where they can check up on potential issues which could cause trouble. Does anyone know if there's anything like that for our local area?

Edit: this is what I was thinking of: http://www.communitysafe.gov.uk/

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

Whilst removing high value goods is warranted, Boarding up is worrying and would seem to me to be the wrong response. As has been previously suggested, we need to be visible on the streets of Sydenham this evening and protecting our community by showing shopkeepers and business owners our support. ...

Not made for these riots, when they're referring to recent events in Tottenham?

Re: Billings Fishmonger and NOW BUTCHER!

"just" a fishmonger? Do you remember the time when Sydenham didn't have a fishmonger? And do you know how many other towns in the country don't have one? So don't start taking it too much for granted :). Anyway, I look forward to patronising them when I actually start shopping in Sydenham. It'll be ...

Oops. I was just trawling round Virtual Norwood http://www.virtualnorwood.com/forum/ when I actually bothered to *read* what it says immediately under the logo: "Serving Norwood, Anerley, Penge and Sydenham"

Recommend a painter/decorator?

Can anyone here, please? I'm probably looking for a sole trader, below the VAT threshold, who'll do a decent job, charge a reasonable rate, and someone I can feel confident that if I leave them alone in the house they're not going to steal the family silver or anything (no, I haven't actually got an...

Please can you give me an honest opinion of what Sydenham is like to live in? I live close to area’s like Twickenham which are pretty and green and leafy but very expensive! An estate agent I called up today about a property within the Thorpe Conservation Area has pretty much put me off living in S...

Re: CarJacking - A message from the police

Well, no, but then in a situation like this, when you're perhaps a bit panicked, thinking there's something wrong with your car, it may not occur to you to do so, which of course is what the carjackers are banking on. More worrying, of course, is whether your insurer will pay up if you've left the k...
