Re: Not sure what the problem is.

So it comes down to Rachael's point about our responses are not working. Do you agree? So where do we go from here? I know where I've gone, like many before. https://sydenham.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13005&p=112223#p112223 'A respectful silence' and 'don't feed the trolls' was simp...

Re: Keeping lobbying private?

If one of us was to write to a minister they probably wouldn't read it. The general advice is to ask your MP to raise an issue with a minister if you want your issue to get anywhere close to the desk of the people in power. That does not apply if you have HRH in front of your name, you have privileg...

Re: Lewisham and West Penge candidates

If they are partly loyal to Israel, then their entire national loyalty is not to Britain. Isn't this just plain common sense? And no doubt somebody can't be a loyal Londoner if they support Manchester United. British Jews are loyal to Britain (with very few exceptions) but most have a natural empat...

Really? You think there is much danger of Labour losing lots of seats south of the border, particularly a seat with a majority of 6,000?

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

why bother with constituencies at all? Why not just put our cross by the name of a party, and let each party then choose people to sit in Parliament in numbers proportionate to the respective number of votes cast? I wouldn't have a problem with such a system. Better still vote for a party and a rep...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Stuart / Robin, Not sure what your problem is. For some people there will be a policy (or party allegiance) that overrides all other considerations. For example, if your priority was to save Beckenham Golf Course there is only one candidate with a clear unambiguous policy, the quality of the other c...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Let's hope how a candidate performs at a hustings becomes a more important factor in future selections. Out of interest, was it just Stuart, Robin, and me attending from this forum? (genuine question) After all this debate about who is or is not on the panel was it really just the three of us who b...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings - 24th April

Unfortunately we have to announce the cancellation of the hustings on Friday 24th April. This is due to difficulty getting agreement from the candidates regarding who should be included and excluded from the panel. Initially we had invited only the five candidates representing parties with more than...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings - 24th April

I can announce that the Forest Hill Society and Sydenham Society have extended invitation to the hustings to all candidates standing in the Lewisham West and Penge constituency (I can't say whether they will all accept but we have 6 confirmed at present). No doubt this will limit the number of quest...

Re: SEE3 Town Team meeting - 7pm this Thursday 16 April

I've been to a few of these SEE3 meetings and walk arounds and nothing seems to happen in Sydenham, partly because you are always 'waiting to see what Forest Hill are doing'. Lots of great ideas came out of other meetings about Sydenham between residents, businesses and shops. Yet none of it seems ...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings - 24th April

I am curious to know whether the minority candidates were invited or if they are deliberately excluded? I am also interested how the deaf candidate will take part. Will it be transcribed live? No 'minority' candidates were invited, only those representing parties who got more than 1% in the last ge...

Re: Closure of 'Liberty GB Candidate' thread

In my view censoring racist, anti-Semitic or anti-Islamic views is counter-productive - it merely enables racists, anti-Semites and anti-Islamists to present themselves as victims. The way to combat racists, anti-Semites and anti-Islamists is to demonstrate by rational argument that their views are...

Re: Southern services to/from London Bridge

Is there some sort of website where people can go if they've been badly served by season ticket advice? If not, someone should set one up. I fear I have been getting the official advice from the most senior people in TfL in charge of ticketing - it took a long time to get a definitive answer to thi...

Re: Southern services to/from London Bridge

Alywin, I was advised quite specifically by TfL that Canada Water would not be an acceptable interchange station for my journey to Waterloo. I would have to change at London Bridge (even though the ticket barriers at Waterloo wouldn't know the difference). So I purchased a Oyster Season ticket for a...
