Re: Betting shops on Sydenham High street...Why so many?

Tim is right to say that the proliferation of betting shops is an unintended consequence of the 2005 Gambling Act. The Act was the work of Tessa Jowell who has recently admitted that she got some parts of the Act wrong. The two main contributing factors the perceived increase in betting shops are a ...

Re: Best dog walks in SE London

Hi Rachael, yes its the £80 fine for dogs going in the middle that is pretty unfriendly. I have greyhounds and if they are let off the lead its no good me telling them they cant go in the middle; they just wont listen!

Re: Best dog walks in SE London

I've been using Beckenham Place Park for about five years; it is excellent for dog walking, particularly the two fields south of the railway line next to the river. Cator Park is quite good but it is very open, although if you are worried about your dog running off there is a small enclosed area of ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Just as an aside about Tesco. I think the fact that in my time in Sydenham it had been a carpet shop, then an ambitious, but doomed Indian and then a badly run pub meant that there was very little sense of affection for the place. The Greyhound, on the other hand, has been a pub for well over 200 ye...

Re: Twice Sweet

Hi, I called in earlier and spoke ton the new proprietor Danny, who told me they encountered a major electrical problem yesterday. That has delayed the refurbishment it doesn't look as if they will be open tomorrow. However, I impressed on him the importance of taking in UPS deliveries, particularly...

Re: Parking problems

When we last had a consultation about CPZ's a few years ago, I was surveyed at Knighton Park Road and said I didn't want one. The consultation was done on a street by street basis and I don't think any were introduced. Today I would still be against a CPZ for my street but I would obviously have no ...

Yes, another car there now. Perhaps the council will now install some bollards when the cars have been removed, if they wver are.

I saw a notice on the car yesterday but it appears to have gone this morning. If it was the seven day notice do you think the car will be cleared before Saturday's market?

Aswad at the Tudor Livesey Hall Tonight

Really looking forward to this gig tonight, with Carol Thompson and Janet Kay in support. Is a good venue in my opinion and it would be nice if further gigs with this calibre of acts were put on there. Hope it is a success but am worried about the lack of local publicity (nothing about it on here, f...

Agree with Pat, Toyo Tyres on Adamsdril Road. Consistently best price, very good service and wont try and sell tyres you don't need (a trick that Kwik Fit are always trying on). They also dispose of their old tyres responsibly, which cant be said of all Sydenham's tyre suppliers. Avoid Sydenham Tyre...

Re: Demolition of Sydenham Rd between Kent Hse and Knighton

To fair Lee, the Hexagon building was a great improvement on what was there before. I've always had a soft spot for it.
The plans would appear to include building over the window on the upstairs of the Lovely Gallery.
I see the Lowcost supermarket has now closed.

Re: Demolition of Sydenham Rd between Kent Hse and Knighton

I received the leaflet also. It is only the building that houses Solo Education and the Lowcost shop, wrapping around to KPR as far as the first houses on the odd numbered side. Personally, I'm quite relaxed at about it present. But them I live further up the road and am unlikely to be affected.

Re: Puzzling aspects of the high street

I was hoping to open a retail offer last year and did a lot of research, projections etc and I found the largest obstacle was rents. I did find somewhere that would have been economically viable with a great location but the terms were frankly absurd and it led to me to believe that the agent didn't...
