Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
If the road closure was intended to increase pedestrianism and cycling, I haven't noticed many of either and certainly no increase. It is quieter and noticeably much less fumy (especially while windows are open) without twice daily traffic queues which is good for me on the face of it. However, if t...

Re: Lockdown Easement: WHO warn the worst is yet to come
In timeline terms, I don't think Johnson did much of anything until after he'd come out of ITU having caught the virus. Matt Hancock has claimed they're working round the clock, night and day, to resolve supply problems etc, seemingly in a "busy going nowhere" way. Most advice is still con...

Re: Local Government Boundary Commission - Lewisham final proposal for Wards
I think I might have leapt to the wrong conclusion as on rereading it looks like it is purely for local councillor representation. If so, I probably won't lose sleep as I doubt changes will make much difference to most of us across the borough. I've only written to a councillor once and got no reply...

Re: Lockdown Easement: WHO warn the worst is yet to come
Daily Mail aside, I'm sure that a larger fault is with the government for incompetent statistic assimilation and dissemination of even those they do have. I can't say I've noticed a flood of people out and about since Monday, which is not good for retailers but maybe more a sign that no-one has trus...

Re: Local Government Boundary Commission - Lewisham final proposal for Wards
... The review is intended to ensure every councillor represents a similar number of people across the borough. ... I thought the intention was to equalise MP's constituents, e.g. 500 apiece, not councillors, hence rejected previously by Scotland and Northern Island as too much distance to cover in...

Re: Freeview reception problems?
... I have too - if I get a thirty foot ladder out, climb up onto my highest chimney and stand on one leg. Go on, you know you want to ;) (Please don't.) I climbed a ladder to paint the upstairs outside windows and did the stupid thing of overstretching. I started to feel the ladder going and corre...

Re: Freeview reception problems?
alywin, I'm surprised you're still using a ring aerial. My indoor aerial reception problems, especially helicopter disruption also suspected weather effect, stopped when I bought flat panel aerials (for each TV). I mentioned these about a year ago so the price has gone up a bit but still within £10 ...

Re: Bell Green car park
It is true for most things that payment is deemed to mean that you accepted the charge. It makes decision making difficult if costs accrue if unpaid, or are halved for prompt payment. Also, if a claim is not upheld, i.e. the original charge is held to be valid, then further charges levied will usual...

Can I add one thing, which might or might not be shown in the links, which is that you cannot legally fight a charge after you've paid it.

Re: SCAMS
A new scam targets people who've ordered a Covid 19 test, asking for bank details to pay for the test, which is free of course. (News this morning.) Sigh.

Re: moving to Sydenham
I think it might be that there's just little action at the moment. You could try online agents active here, e.g. Acorn, Property World, Pedder. There are others, so check a catch all like Zoopla which has a fair number under £400K. Good luck.
Re: SCAMS
syenhamboy, in a perfect world scammers wouldn't exist and people wouldn't be taken in by the ones that do exist. The reason of course is that scammers are very clever and are very well practised in words and tone used or phone tricks they've devised. I personally gave a factual account of the very ...
Re: SCAMS
Latest scam received several times via landline recently is: "A payment of £ many has been made from your credit/debit card today (adding sometimes outside this country). Press 1 to stop this transaction." They tend to come in phases, like every day for a week presumably to imply urgency t...

Re: Outrageous Acorn Estate Agents
Maybe Acorn just got the address wrong? Estate agents use subcontractors for placing and collecting sign boards so mistakes or inattentiveness can happen. As I understand it, new legal rules came in a few years ago, whereby a "For Sale" board can be placed only if commissioned for that pro...

Re: Free bike servicing in Mayow Park?
I'd be inclined to check park byelaw restrictions or ask the parks department first and they'd probably say no, as all and sundry could set up stalls with free goods/services, brackets donations welcome. Or go ahead and see if anyone stops you as long as it wouldn't attract a fine of course. I think...

Re: What's the circumference of Wells Park?
I pulled up Google Maps to use the "measure distance" option, which you get by mouse right-clicking on the map and selecting measure distance, then clicking elsewhere. Note the distance down, close (click X on the little box), take more measurements. Adding them together will give a reason...

It was almost quiet here last week so maybe it is/was petering out now that people don't feel they're locked in, or are choosing not be, any more, rightly or wrongly.
