Re: Hillcrest Estate - report published

Thank you for your replies everyone. Would we all agree that whether supportive of a proposal or not, it’s in everybody’s interests that decisions being taken are transparent and clear? I’m sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t want a situation where major decisions – for or against – are being tak...

Re: Lewisham nighttime economy consultation - have your say!

Will there be anyone speaking on behalf of teens and younger adults for whom there's virtually nowhere to go for entertainment or passing time that doesn't come with entry or other fees & unaffordable costs?

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR

Looking at the building control page on reporting a dangerous structure, it seems that anyone can report it, they don't have to live there. I will report it tomorrow, and if some more people also report it, it might be a quicker way of getting a response than a physical demo. Multiple complaints sh...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR

...[clip]... Mosy raises a valid point but frankly, if it were I, then that would be way down on the checklist. Safety would come top. ... In principle I'd agree; in practice it depends on how much money one has going spare in the bank to pay both temp rental and mortgage for any length of time, su...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR

If it does transpire that you should indeed move out, either sooner or later, it might be worth finding out beforehand who will pay the temporary rental and getting their confirmation in writing and quickly. I'm sorry this adds another question rather than solving anything.

Re: Wooden Flooring company

Have you had the wettened floor and underneath checked to make sure it's dry enough to lay a floor directly on top? In a different place, my washing machine flooded the floor to 1 or 2" deep, which I just mopped up. It turned out that water had gone down the edges and caused dry rot, needing the joi...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR

by Lord Summerisle » 08 Nov 2018, 15:15 Building Regs Inspectors MUST attend if someone, whose property is affected, asks them to. The way to do this is to ask them to examine your own property... (i.e. the person in the flat above) expressing concern at structural defects such as what appear to be...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR

How horrendous for you. I'm so sorry. If you do have a mortgage, then presumably the mortgage provider has a stake in the property and would appreciate hearing about the situation, and might even do something about it? Whether this is the right tactic to use, though, I don't know. alywyn, I was thi...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR

Words fail me about these misdoings and the distress it's causing to you. Any building society or estate agent used to have names of structural engineers they're prepared to suggest, which is a sort of recommendation. At least they used to have so don't know if they still do. You don't mention havin...

Re: STF users meeting

Tim Lund, if I may, the question that arose about your anti-Brexit campaign meeting post was that it was written as if it were a local meeting or rally when in fact it was nothing of the sort, being a national campaign with nothing to do with Sydenham so was simply political campaigning, hence being...

Re: STF users meeting

Bensonby, I will take it upon myself to reply in the generality and will of course stand corrected. Certain people were unhappy with certain other people's posts and a lack of moderation intervention or what some see as questionable has given rise to disgruntlement. I should add, in reference to mor...

Re: STF users meeting

In that case, your reasons for a meeting are different from those proposed by Dom Johnston, so you should perhaps suggest one of your own.

I think damage done is done and I hope the relevant ears have heard comments made.

If we are talking about the same thing, it was Dom Johnston who was interested in hearing views about the forum and possible enhancements who recently said that as he'd just moved in a future date would be proposed by him, admin consenting. If you are talking about a different meeting, or one you ar...

Thanks again. Looks like I need to make a list of possibilities and then whittle it down to most aesthetic and fewest holes in the wall. I'll let you know what the winner is, er, eventually methinks.

Re: Old, very heavy, wall mirrors vs plasterboard wall

Thanks JRW, clearly you know what I mean. I was hoping to avoid a batten or shelf though. I could screw it through into the brickwork of an outside wall successfully, even though it won't be where I wanted it, but at least I wouldn't need to be worrying about it. I might just prop it (both) on a che...

Old, very heavy, wall mirrors vs plasterboard wall

Any ideas for hanging two lovely old mirrors that will probably bring the partition wall down? One is backed with 3-ply board, one with 1/2" hardwood, hence extra heavy (since mirror glass is heavy anyway). The backs appear to be secured to the morror by unscrewable clips. Sizewise, they're about 18...

Re: End Of Tenancy Clean

I have a feeling that the law on deposits changed a fair few years ago such that it's a lot harder now for deposits to be retained by landlords over piffling things. Even when they did that, a friend rented a place for only a short while yet they claimed an oil spill on the drive (that was already t...
