Fear not, Steve, I shall be appearing as a member of the public.....
(.........and I'd much prefer to watch Falkor digging than arm wrestle, anyday  )

look forward to meeting you all.

...i reckon its looking south west...
it shows the vale that dead lane was in...so lock 22 would have been tantalisingly just out of shot to the right.
the terrain is very different today, buit we should be able to match that bit of the cutting to the other photos...

I ewas wondering if it was Nunhead...
I know there was a lot of landscaping of the hill and surrounds..
I think this must be looking down towards wood vale and forest hill rd...
I wonder if they built the reservoir that early...that would explain the earthworks...

Looks like the long road might be Honor Oak Road - and the view is from the top of Derby Hill or somewhere thereabouts. that does make sense...then thats London rd hidden away in the mid foreground (or maybe a little further up...from eliot bank, towards hornimans, and wood vale...that would explai...

Cheers for that, multi! I lived there from 1977 - 1985, on and off, and was part of the co operative that kept it going until the early 90's (the council were going to demolish it in the late 70's, but squatters, and later the co - op, held that back.) I saw a flat for sale there recently for over £...

However....they were often doing these acts of historical altruism out of a quest for empirical glory.. (I suspe...

any buildings would have stables, sheds for the shops or pubs on dartmaouth arms.. there may have been railway buildings long ago...(i'll look at some maps)..but I dont think there was ever much access to this area, the footpath was separate even then, and access to the yards would have been through...

Noel Terrace

Does anyone have images or any idea of the history of Noel Terrace.
I believe it was built for the Railworkers between 1868 - 1873, but I cant be sure.
this us all I have at the moment, (courtesy of Steve Grindley's colection)
