Re: Overground - Six month weekend closure plan
Thanks, Rachael. When I read the title, I thought for a nasty minute that it was going to take them 6 months of w/e closures of this bit of the line to do all the prep necessary for the 5-coach trains. Add that to all the weekend closures of London Bridge for whatever they now call the Thameslink 20...

Re: Begging on Trains
Must be honest most noticed on Penge East trains. I wonder if she had a ticket ???? On the basis that you don't need to go through a ticket gate for most Southeastern stations, I should think. I've noticed people going through and putting things on seats, but they usually come back about a minute l...

Re: House prices
I truly hope those who are paying stupid prices have the cash and not buying on a mortgage. That is the route of dire consequences. Well, actually, if you think about it, if you're getting a mortgage, the mortgage lender should at least be prepared to say "no, that price is too stupid, we're n...

Re: Begging in Sydenham Road
There was a woman at Penge East today trying to cadge a used Travelcard off passersby - very unhealthy-looking skin colour. No idea if it was related to what everyone else has reported. I was reminded of the campaign they have at Victoria and elsewhere to prevent people from passing on Travelcards ...

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
Alywin, i don't think there is any parking associated with the existing building, nor is there any proposed as part of the development, reasoning being that it will be short stay accomodation notionally linked to the station so will not need parking. I'm sure I saw parking mentioned on the wrapped-...

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
I noticed when I went past it today that it is a very small site - where on earth is the existing car parking? The building is bounded by the railway and that road-which-doesn't-go-anywhere, the name of which I can't remember.

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
Thanks to all the sleuths :). So, converting from 6 beds to 16, with the accessible one presumably at ground-floor level? Really doesn't sound as though there'll be much room left for the pub/bistro part of things. That would explain about the parking, though: I had visions of a hostel for the homel...

The Alexandra to become a hostel?
The question mark in the title is merely to indicate that I may have misread this, because the planning application was wrapped round a nearby lamppost and was very difficult to read. Strangely enough, there wasn't one on the building itself ;), however, it looks as though the former Alexandra pub o...

Re: Bad weekend for rail travellers (again)
But that's the point: there is no shared track between Victoria-Orpington and London Bridge-Sydenham, so there shouldn't be a problem.Rachael wrote:Bit difficult if it's the shared track that's being worked on.alywin wrote: And can't someone please coordinate these things so we have at least one service running?

Re: Good weekend for train travel?
On both routes, by the looks of things: I believe the engineering works between Shortlands and Herne Hill or wherever they were have been suspended in favour of more urgent work on the Catford Loop line (but check with national rail enquiries if you want to be sure).

What about this weekend coming? I see there are no trains from Penge East/Sydenham Hill on Sunday - is there any service from Sydders itself? And can't someone please coordinate these things so we have at least one service running?

That's rather more generous than Bromley's blink-and-you-missed-it system, but I'll put details here anyway for those living in Bromley Borough: http://www.bromley.gov.uk/info/531/recycling_sites/703/christmas_tree_recycling_sites So all those people who left their trees out on the street hoping the...

Tim, if that was addressed to me, then because the Land Registry hadn't updated the site, so Zoopla wouldn't have it either. I thought they were supposed to make these entries pretty fast, but obviously not.

Re: Sydenham house prices up by 50k?
From what i know Sydenham estate agents are engaging in practices such as unaccepting offers and forcing up prices by creating hype. Yes. I for one am getting very irritated at the number of ultra-smug "look what we've just sold a property for in your area" communications coming through t...

Re: NO TRAINS THIS WEEKEND
Actually, if they're doing strengthening work on Goat House Bridge (just before Norwood Junction), then that would explain why there aren't any trains running through, most likely. (See separate post re bus service diversions http://sydenham.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10303). If so, then I...

Re: South Norwood bridge closure
*Serious* bus diversions. The 75 bus is being diverted, presumably via Elmers End Road, to terminate at Elmers End, and I think the 157 is going round via the 410 bus route or something, so it's going to be virtually impossible to get to places west. And this when there are no trains at the weekend ...
