There is an interesting little wrinkle about collecting/pamphleting by Sydenham Station, At the time of the election for Mayor of London my wife was promoting Ken, and I was there to show solidarity (which, since I am a reluctant but resolute Tory, was very noble of me). We were informed by the stat...

I live next door to Ladbrokes, but haven't been aware of any alarm disturbance from them.

Now if I had a pound for every time the Santander alarm went off after hours I would be a very rich man!

Stuart - I regret to say that I have, by and large, to agree with you. A speed limit by itself does not enforce 100% compliance, but aggressive humps do a pretty good job. Nevertheless I would be in favour of introducing residential 20mph zones even without traffic calming measures. A significant pr...

I am in favour of it. The consolidated report about 20-mph zones published recently was positive about the benefits in terms of reduced deaths and serious injuries to pedestrians and cyclists, and the zones do improve the quality of life for those living within them. There has been an argument, prom...

If you give the URL to the website in question we might have a better idea of what Java, Trojans etc. it is trying to run.

The Forum connection has been a bit intermittent this morning. This is unusual. I class the Forum as one of the better sites I visit regularly for speed of response and reliability.

I have used Freecycle a lot since we moved to Sydenham (mostly the Croydon group) since we are so short of space that buying anything new means throwing something else out, and it has proved a very successful method of moving usable goods on to a new home. The effectiveness of the system would be re...

How does this differ from the well-established Freecycle network?

Forgive me, but there is a slight flavour of spam to both your recent postings.

A good point. Eagle. Incidentally the chances of your having a home delivery pizza are almost certainly far greater than the chance that I would ever vote Labour 8)

Letterbox debate?

We received two pieces of hand-delivered post here today. The first was the Labour Sydenham News with a headline "Council Tax Frozen". The second was from a pizza firm with the rubric "We don't believe in frozen dough"

:)

Admin When the upgrade came, and things were worse, I tried applying the latest router firmware version. It made no difference, and was a real pain to apply since I have a lot of port and other configuration to support my rather complex system here, and that had to be re-applied from scratch. It tur...

Chris - I had exactly the same symptoms on re-grade. The uplink increased but the downlink stayed at 7616Kbps. This was because although my modem was in multimode - that did not include ADSL2+. I had to physically select the ADSL2+ option. On reboot it immediately picked up the 15000Kbps connect an...

My ISP is Demon (Cable & Wireless). I was upgraded in the summer to ADSL2+. Upload speeds nearly quadrupled (welcome since I run a web server for photos) but download connection speed stayed about the same at around 6,5Mbps. Reliability became much worse. The line goes down a couple of times a d...

I would agree that for downhill runs a rubble bag gives excellent performance. Even in Sweden a lot of the kids use plastic sheets (a bit like a flexible tray) with a handle attached. I am going there tomorrow and may bring back one 'for the grandchildren'.

I think that was staff training (was on that side of the road and could see). From memory they are open 12:00 to 14:15 today for their inauguration.

What's not clear on the TfL website is whether or not it will also work on National Rail services.
The sample pdf, whose link was posted by Nasaroc, indicates that it does.

Unfortunately most probably a fault in the LCD screen electronics used to drive the matrix which controls the screen pixels. Unless it is a very expensive laptop replacement of the entire unit would probably be the cheapest option. :?
