Re: The Woodhouse

I haven't been for YEARS. In the 90s I used to go for lunch sometimes which was great. They had a barbecue in the summer. I think I last went after they had a refurb (probably at least 5 years ago). We had a sunday roast which wasn't particularly nice so never went back. There are so many good place...

Re: Sydenham Market is back on 2nd Saturday of the month

I am going to sound so negative and I don't want to be. Our monthly market just feels like it is dying. I go along most months when it is on to try and buy something but it is just not grabbing me. It seems that fewer and fewer people attend it and the buzz has gone. I did enjoy the music yesterday ...

I heard that there is a plan to build flats where Connaught Leisure is.

Re: vote for the best coffee in Sydenham

I enjoy the lattes in Brown & Green in Mayow Park. Sorry for non supporters of chains but I also enjoy the coffee in Costa by Sainsburys. I used to be a regular in Kente but no longer; sadly it has gone down hill so much.

Late Knights - Beer Revolution

Just popped in for a drink and loved it. Worth a try especially for beer drinkers (funnily enough!).

Re: How to dispose of small dead electrical items

Definitely outside your house is the best option in the first instance. I usually leave overnight and very few items have not been taken. The other thing is Freecycle. Advertise them as broke and you could be surprised. Over the years I have got rid of countless items including a broken washing mach...

Re: Shirin

I think the other post is slightly misleading as it isn't strictly speaking Lebanese. For people who check here and not there I thought the felafel wrap I had was excellent but the coffee wasn't. The owner is Persian and has had a business in the area in the past. He is very friendly which for me ma...

The felafel wraps are excellent but the coffee wasn't. I agree that service is slow.

Re: Possible Burglary threat

This is such a common tactic it seems. We were burgled about 3 years ago now by some young lads doing just this. We were out but they had been knocking on doors to find out who was in etc. I've learnt you can never be too careful.

Re: New to this forum - seeking community space to hire...

I have absolutely no idea if this would be a goer or not but Kente (coffee shop on Sydenham high street) has a room downstairs. Perhaps pop in for a coffee and ask George (owner) if it could be used.

Re: Girton Road Car Park

Does anyone remember the encampment on Silverdale in the mid 90s? The caravans seemed to be there for ages and ages and one day they left and sadly, yes, there was an incredible amount of mess left behind.

Sydenham Monthly Food Fair

We came across the food fair at the end of April quite by chance and are wondering if it is a regular event now and will be happening next Sunday.

For anyone that missed it, it was on the new square by Lloyds Bank.

Re: Decent Hairdressers in Sydenham

I have been going to Mastercutters for a few years now. Have had my hair cut by different stylists there and never been disappointed. Scott, the manager, has been doing it now for at least 3 years I think but possibly more. I like it in there.

Re: Looking for a good kitchen fitter and builder etc

We used someone called Martin a few years ago for our kitchen and he was great. I would recommend him without hesitation. The boiler in that kitchen was fitted by British Gas although I have heard good stuff about Progas and will be using them to replace the boiler in our current house. We have used...

Re: Favourite Five Books

Peter Pan, JM Barrie - the first proper book (as opposed to short stories) I read. I remember reading it in one sitting when I was about 7 and loved it. Clouds from both sides, Julie Tullis - she was a mountaineer who died on K2. The book was so inspiring (although I have never dared try mountainee...
