Re: New small coffee shop inside Dragonfly Yoga

I'm doubtful that many people will venture into Dragonfly Yoga just for a coffee or juice. It doesn't look the most inviting of places. It looks dull rather than cheerful and, somewhat clinical, and, given the size of the "reception" area, which looks like a rather downmarket hotel lobby, ...

Men charged after Sydenham shooting

This report was in the News Shopper. Two young men from Lewisham have been charged with gun possession in relation to the death of a man in Sydenham who accidentally shot himself. A 25-year-old died on Venner Road last month from gunshot wounds after an apparent attempt to shoot another person backf...

Re: Old Co-Op and circus posters

These posters at the old Co-Op and the former Costcutter have been attached to the inside of the windows. Someone must have gone into the buildings. Perhaps a letting agent has done this. If so, why would they bother. The posters are just for a circus, and they're in shops all over Sydenham. Bizarre.

Re: What’s going on at x?

I wouldn't be surprised if Cherry and Ice has closed for good. It was closed for a very long period earlier in the year for a refurb, but I have to be honest and say that it didn't look much different when it reopened. I've always felt that it's never been sure what it wants to be. The ice creams ar...

Re: Old Co-Op and circus posters

No, but is does feature people who go on community forums with nothing constructive to add to a post (and, I believe, they are often on a Penny Farthing bike).

Old Co-Op and circus posters

The old Co-op in the high street has been empty for three to four years now (with the lights on). So how on earth have posters for a circus appeared on one of the windows inside? I find this puzzling. I can't imagine the owner opening up the building to let someone stick up some posters. In fact, th...

I would have thought that someone firing a gun would alert the police to possible criminal activity!

Re: Gunshots?

I've trawled the web, but haven't found any mention of an incident involving gun shots in Sydenham last night. Perhaps, as someone suggested, the sound was fireworks. I for one wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Robbery at newsagent

I heard today that the small newsagent opposite The Greyhound was robbed at around 5 pm yesterday. A guy (black with a beard and wearing a hood with a baseball cap underneath it), who claimed to have a knife, grabbed money from the till and ran off.

Re: Shooting in the high street this afternoon

Just come across this statement from the Met: Police were called at 15:45hrs on Sunday, 8 September to reports of suspicious activity in Sydenham Road, SE29. Officers attended. Shots were subsequently heard and firearms officers were also called to the scene along with the London Ambulance Service. ...

Re: Shooting in the high street this afternoon

According to a post on Twitter, there was a car chase, which ended outside Lloyds bank at 4 pm, and a shot was fired. I can't verify this. Has anyone spoken to anyone who witnessed the incident?

Shooting in the high street this afternoon

Loads of police cars in the high street, which has been taped off between Newlands Park and the railway bridge, and helicopter flying above. Apparently there's been a shooting near Lloyds bank.

Re: Mad Dough

Regarding Hibagon providing "world-class Japanese food", all I know is that any time it's open there's virtually no customers eating there, and they're always advertising for staff. I admit I haven't eaten at Hibagon, or ordered a takeaway, and I recall when it first opened six or seven ye...

Re: Mad Dough

I hope they will do well, but they will be up against it. The restaurant business is one of the hardest to succeed in, as Sydenham demonstrates. Just recently, Shirin in the high street has closed down, as has the waffle place on Kirkdale. And I can't work out how the sushi restaurant (the one with ...

Bingo and bikes in Sydenham

There's a planning application to open a bingo hall at 291 Kirkdale, which I think is the building that backs on to Nando's. Bizarre! Is bingo making a comeback, then? Also, during the last few days I've noticed quite a few Lime e bikes left around Sydenham. I'm wondering if the company has come wit...

Incident at the bottom of Westwood Hill

There's been some sort of incident or accident at the bottom of Westwood Hill. When I was taking my son to school this morning at around 8.30, the police had taped off the road between Laurie Park Road and Hall Drive. I could see a motorbike lying on the road near the Hall Drive junction. I counted ...

Re: Builder sought

I can highly recommend Brian Brooks. He's done a lot of work for us over the years, everything from installing new windows to building an arch to separate the kitchen from the dining room. And we are going to hire him to build an extension. He's reliable, professional, friendly, and won't rip you of...

Re: Live Sydenham Train Departures

Sorry, Stuart, perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't understand what the point of this is. The three Sydenham stations are quite far apart. They share a name, but that's about all. Penge East is closer to Sydenham station, Gypsy Hill closer to Sydenham Hill, and Lower Sydenham closer to Beckenh...
