Re: St Philip Neri Meeting - Thursday 19 July 7pm
Thank you to everyone involved in last night's meeting. It was extremely informative. Cllr Tom Copley did a good job chairing the meeting and Viv Evans, only two weeks into in his new role as Head of Planning for Lewisham, was very clear in his description of how enforcement works (and some of its c...

Re: Bell Green Gasometers – A Compromise
Is that a fact? or is that just your opinion? Have you asked all of the residents in Bellingham Ward? you personally might not like them (that's an understatement - you clearly hate them, and want them got rid), but as far as I'm aware you are not an elected representative of Bellingham Ward. what'...

Re: Bell Green Gasometers – A Compromise
Another belated endeavour, this time by @Cllr Tom Copley on 18 July, to attempt to get the Mayor to intervene and give consideration to issuing an Article 4 Direction to remove permitted development rights from locally listed buildings in Lewisham. The argument as presented, alleges that a planning ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Tim I would have no problem if that position was to prove to be supported by published evidence related directly to that location. It would mean that we have transparency and doubt would be removed. As it is, we are left to speculate - no certainty there. De-facto we have traffic being present in la...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Very prescient John H An overpass is certainly the most innovative proposal I have seen since 1993 when the concept was first discussed. The council in fact focused on widening the over-bridge to have two lanes pass under the railway (not over) - and they negotiated, secured and received some £2.08m...

Re: Bell Green Gasometers – A Compromise
John H I think most posters had got that point early on. Paradoxically - not least because I did not address this in the compromise proposal - would planning consent be required if an emblematic retention of a small portion on a different locus on site be required. My early thoughts are - probably !

Re: Bell Green Gasometers – A Compromise
Congratulation Robin - this is NOT a well-formed Latin sentence. Something to do with flogging dead horses is sooo accurate and well perceived. The translation at one point had me as the dead horse that I should stop flogging - in interpretive terms it is probably an equally astute and accurate obse...

Re: Bell Green Gasometers – A Compromise
The decision point has passed. LB Lewisham has granted permission for the demolition proposal to proceed. SGN's agent's Montagu Evans in their cover letter for the application inserted this paragraph at page 5,: "Without prejudice to the submitted details, SGN recognise that the gasholders are ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Pally It is confusing - our esteemed councillors have now decreed that affordable social housing is key for this site. Despite not having brought forward a proposer/developer or the required funding for this. And having permitted officers to consult on an entirely different type of development for o...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
JGD, Regarding the very sensible sounding procedures and conditions that bind the developers, I refer you to the St Philip Neri school redevelopment. Multiple breaches of planning agreement, but no enforcement visible, and the build continues. I keep being told by councillors that Lewisham is afrai...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
Here is the extract from the letter received today advising me that permission to demolish had been granted. Rather interestingly the letter is dated 11 July - the decision must have been made then. " Prior notification of the demolition of the two existing gasholders and ancillary buildings at...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
JGD, those conditions seem absolute to me, assuming they still apply and somehow haven't been or won't be cast aside if a new development application is presented. broken_shaman: You say " ...and Sydenham got nothing out of the 'deal' to tackle the wider issues of congestion and pollution in t...

There are four conditions attached to the Decision Notice at https://planning.lewisham.gov.uk/online-applications/files/A5AA1430E36122876AB2D361E619525B/pdf/DC_18_107607-Decision_Notice-703390.pdf Conditions 3 and 4 appear to very properly specify not only what remediation is required but what monit...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
There has been an appeal lodged against the council's refusal of the Aldi store so, in addition to the new application for demolition alone, there is a live proposal for the Aldi store. ........ There are no plans to demolish or directly alter The Livesey Hall and its Perimeter Wall and the War Mem...

Thank you parker - how could I omit the treasured 352.
And whilst the 75 does not reach Bell Green - it is a real diamond if you are in Sydenham and want an alternative route to Catford.

Re: Why high streets die
JayB Would be interested to see where TfL publishes this result and how it scores the locations using what criteria. We live an approx 4-5 min walk from Bell Green. we have the 181's & 202's go past our door and we can get to Crystal Palace, Blackheath and Lewisham using them. We use the 356, 45...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
LadyLewisham - your interpretation is very close to the way I understand things to be - I think you have the rights of it with one exception - SGN having secured it means the demolition can go ahead without further consent or approval being required. At risk of repetition: Approval of “Prior Notific...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
You have a very good visual imagination then, as you've never seen Livesey Hall without them. I'm impressed by the way you can mentally picture the scene without these monumental structures which have been there for nearly 130 years clearly enough to know that their disappearance wouldn't adversely...
