Re: Expletive Deleted

The rule is intentional offence will be subject to moderation. So if I called "Forum Member X" a <censored> clearly that would be moderated - a personal attack (and I'd probably be banned as well). But what if I declared that "pastime X" was a load of old <censored>? Would that ...

Re: How do you Sydenhammers enjoy yourself

NIS - if you fancy a pint and a chat sometime, just put a thread up on here somewhere, I'm up for a social kind of event.... Rumour has it that there are occasional gatherings of regulars from this very forum at watering holes in the area....some have a copy of the FT with them, some drink purple b...

Re: Station Shop

I would imagine the coming of the Metro to Sydenham was the death knell for him. If you pop in for a paper, you're just as likely to pick up a drink, a snack, some chewing gum, etc. If you're clutching a freebie Metro theres no need to go in for a paper.... Bet people will miss his hot drinks when t...

I have used two mentioned here already, the one near the pet shop, between Morrisons and Lidl, and the one in Forest Hill more or less opposite Sainsburys, although neither for a good 18 months now. I'd definately recommend the latter, although both could have done with a facelift last time I was in...

ex-Proctors Estate Agents

Anyone have any gossip on this? George Proctors Sydenham branch, onthe corner of Silverdale and the high street, closed probably about 18 months-2yrs ago and has been empty ever since. A few weeks back some people were in there clearing stuff and up a ladder painting black over the orange sign. Sinc...

Does anyone actually head south from Sydenham to go to work? Overground services to West Croydon are more frequent, start earlier and finish later. But we've lost our Sutton services (apart from one at silly o-clock in the morning) and I suspect may of those who do head south will be making an...

TfL has agreed to "hold back" a sizeable group of free tickets at Sydenham and FH stations for 2pm. Controversial!!! "Hold back" eh? So if you go down there at, say 8am, chances are you'll get one, then they will run out at, maybe, i dunno, say 11ish....then by 2pm all of a sidd...

A limited number of free Travelcards will be available from each of the new Overground stations.

Depending on how well publicised this ends up being, you may be disappointed if you're hoping for one at 2pm....

I believe I am right in saying the whole lot starts up on Sunday, through trains from Dalston in the north to Crystal Palace, New Cross and West Croydon.

Which means through trains at NXG from then, instead of ones from Dalston terminating there.

Chess

Would the good folk of Sydenham class chess as a sport?

Does anybody play it?

Summer's coming, gotta be someone who's happy to sit outside a pub with a (purple) beer playing a nice game of chess?

1. Transport for London (TfL) are already running the stations between East Croydon and London Bridge. This means that all local stations, including Sydenham, are now staffed throughout the day “from first to last train” meaning a far safer and more secure environment for passengers. Are they? Rece...

I think perhaps it is easier to remember the occasions when a train is late than the more frequent occasions when it is on time.

Not everyone heads to London Bridge in the morning and leaves London Bridge in the evening. East Croydon is the busiest station that Southern operate and a major interchange for stations to Gatwick and the south coast. How will the introduction of East London Line services affect the commute to East...
