Surely
Waitrose have as many lorries thundering through the streets as the other supermarkets. Surely they have as much unnecessary wrapping on their produce? They might have a few fairtrade lines but so do other stores. They just don't carry enough lines and I've always felt they just keep to the same old...

A memory about Fairlawn Park
Years ago....a long long time ago....there wasn't weed growing up the chain link fence on the school on the corner and the area was nice and open looking. My then boyfriend lived in FP and he would wave to me from quite far up the road as I stood at the bus stop opposite the school as you could see ...

Hello I'm a lurker!
I found this site a couple of weeks ago and it's been lovely looking at old pics and reminiscing. I lived in Kent House Road from 1970-77 on the brow of the hill in a huge house. It's still there but turned into flats I think. I would be interested to see if there are any photos of this road, Bryden...

hmmmm tricky one
My sister lives in Overdown Rd which is Bellingham SE6, a couple of roads away and as an old Sydenhamite I would always refer to that part as Bellingham~(up the hill). I've never addressed anything to her as Sydenham or Catford. I lived in Kent House Road right on the border of Lewisham and Bromley ...

More memories - Saxon Tavern anyone?
I used to go to the Saxon Tavern pub at the top of Southend Lane (think it's a supermarket now) Anyone have any memories of it?

Did you have a Saturday job in Sydenham in the 70's?
I worked in the Ice Cream Parlour, Machins Bakers (almost opposite Wesley Hall) and in Wises Fish & Chips Shop nearby. In the bakers then a bloomer loaf was about 13p and rolls were about 4p. It was family run and he started baking at about 3am. I worked in the Chip shop during the 3 day week an...

Does anyone remember snow on Xmas day 1971?
I remember waking up to find it had snowed on Xmas morning - it was quite deep.
There was no traffic anywhere for ages and everyone was sledding down Kent House Rd (no bus route) there wasnt half the volume of traffic then anyway.
And it was quiet! Now that was a great day!

Yes they were great!
There was a real feeling the whole area had come together - people did know their neighbours then (even though the mortgage rate was about 9% at the time LOL). One of my sisters was "Queen of the Park" on one of the fete days - don't know if there would be photos in existence? Also there w...

Sydenham Girls School
Did anyone here go to Sydenham County Girls School in Dartmouth Road from 1969-74? I think it's just called Sydenham now. I remember the smart uniforms and house system, and you and the whole school were in trouble if you were seen even eating in public with the uniform on - including pudding basin ...

Summer fetes?
Hi,
Anyone remember the great summer fetes in Home Park in the 70's? There were TV personalities (I remember Robin Nedwell from Doctor in the House) and it always seemed to be on a sunny day much looked forward to.
Happy memories.

Double-fronted shop??
Hello again,
Does anyone remember a double fronted women's clothes shop almost opposite Newlands Pk in the 70's? On the same side as the jeweller's where the clock hangs(hung?). ahhhhhhhh had my ears pierced in that jeweller's - had to wait until I was 16 in 1974.

Thank you for the link. That was quick! I must have been one of the last to go there then we saw Chiity Chitty Bang Bang there so must have been just before it closed. Criterion Ice Cream Parlour
Forgot to mention on my other post about the cinema I used to work Sat & Sun in the Criterion - heady lovely days in about 1974-5. In the summer there were queues up the road and people came out of the Lion into the parlour. If you ever had a lovely toasted ham sanwich in there or cappucino serv...

Sydenham Cinema?
Hello, I lived in Kent House Road in the 70's. Does anyone remember the cinema opposite Slatter's, on the corner where Safeway used to be? Also does anyone remember the snow on Xmas morning in 1970/71? Would there be any photos anywhere. Fond memories of Sydenham.................shame about the traf...
