Re: Bell Green: A SydSoc view of s106 Monies
Looks like work has evidently resumed on the dismantling of the last gas-holder today. Finally - the work has progressed to a point where these carbunkles will soon be no more. It is inexplicable why Keltbray's programme for completion of the dismantling of this last structure has been delayed for w...

In anticipation of engaging in traditional Hogmanay celebrations which will undoubtedly mean swallowing a few wee drams or so, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year whilst I can still type. May all of you and yours enjoy the healthiest and most prosperous of New Years. Happy Hogm...

Re: Ella Kissi-Debrah - A Very Sad Death & a Welcome Reversal
Not at all sure why there are such significant delays still. Another pre-inquest review was set for April 8 at Southwark Coroners Court. The inquest, which could take place in either November or December next year, is likely to last two weeks. An update published on 17 December 2019. https://www.new...

Re: Sydenham Info goes IPv6
Can't be sure precisely when it happened. I have had FTTP for a couple of years now and took delivery of their SmartHub 2 in recent months. Sometime shortly thereafter I noticed the IPv6 option had been activated.
Not sure if activation is Hub-type dependent.

Re: Theft in broad daylight
Horror story - your friend's case to be argued with the supplier, deliverer and respective insurance companies will be a tale to be told too. On Perry Hill the fastest drive-by pick-up in daylight is around six minutes. Average 12-25 minutes for white goods. Once watched an eastern European lady lif...

Re: Guess who's no 1 in the EE 5G roll-out
As we transitioned from 3G to 4G our local networks were diluted by the early conversion of existing antennae to 4G. Performance on 3G plummeted as a result. If lessons are truly learned , there will be no repeat of this reduction of transmission strength and distribution during this upgrade - perha...

Re: Coop Forest Hill
Despite rumours to the contrary, the exit of the co-op from the corner site may presage the start of the construction of the 85 bed hotel. Not sure the relocation site is the best choice - the existing corner site was convenient for many nearer to Forest Hill town centre and not least the home-comin...

Re: Fatal Accident Outside Catford Station
Well argued Stuart. I do hope you are right. Observationaly however I still feel the frequency of occasions where we see that category of behaviour that you describe as stupid is too great. Are those instances a result of people being blinded by the need to make constant progress and therefore disre...

Re: Fatal Accident Outside Catford Station
I note the linked article says, or at least implies, that the lorry driver didn't stop immediately. It makes me wonder if he even knew, if it happened in his blind spot (or one of them). I have seen cycles mount the pavement specifically to give lorries a wide berth which is not good if pedestrians...

... That would, in the past, been the natural domain of the Sydenham Society. The problem is, of recent years, SydSoc has been evolving into a more partisan organisation - hence less able to reflect the views of the broader community. We are a bit stuck there. [BTW that is an explanation and not an...
