Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
Just a thought, but presumably if the gas holders were knocked down, they could build an Aldi with flats on top of it - everyone’s a winner! Might not look all that nice, but then Bell Green is hardly an area of outstanding natural beauty is it? A couple of points 1. An Aldi will attract shoppers w...

Re: New houses proposed
To my untrained eye it looks like some chancer wants to make some cash from a bit of land that is filled with trees and right next to a railway line. Trees which presumably shield the existing buildings from noise and provide habitat for wildlife. It doesn't look like a development opportunity to me...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
Meanwhile... over in Oval, plans are in to build housing inside the (listed) gas holders, as was done in King's Cross.

Re: What *are* they doing to Dartmouth Road?
here is a reply from the council... Thank you for your email. It may be helpful if I provide some background to the project, which is a £1.5m scheme to improve the public realm and road safety in Forest Hill. The project is funded by Transport for London, but it has been prioritised and designed by...

Re: RIP DYLON FACTORY
They're not too offensive to look at imo, but I would have preferred a conversion which incorporated the frontage of the original building. But I guess the developers would prefer to cram as many units in as possible. I wouldn't fancy living railway side either. It will be interesting to see how the...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
I understand what you are saying but again I ask why was the original planning granted for a site design like that. I'm guessing it's because people at the time probably said 'I'd quite like some shops and it'll be better than what's there now' and that was the limit of public involvement. Soon we ...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
The gas towers may be 'ugly', but we are talking about replacing these remaining structures with an Aldi... At least the gas towers are different and have some place in local history.. I accept you can't buy cheap food from them, but that's no reason to set your sights on the blandest outcome for yo...

Re: Westwood Hill Speed Camera
Would be interesting to find out how many fines this camera generates to assess whether it actually does its job of reducing speed. If it isn't effective, perhaps physical measures, such as chicanes, gates or humps would be better at managing speed, if a little less profitable? The 20mph blanket lim...

Re: Bell Green Retail & Employment Plan Consultation
And there are probably only two other surviving early pioneering examples with tee-section lattice guide frame standards, both in London. The No. 1 gasholder at Kennington, near the Oval, was completed a year later in 1879 but its standards were subsequently raised; and the 1882 gasholder at Sydenh...

Re: Bell Green Retail & Employment Plan Consultation
I thought restaurants and boutiques when the housing development came in and the B&Q bit. We got Sports Direct taking over all the units as one in the housing bit and a drive through McDonalds. So I don't want to disappoint myself again. Those car parks make great spaces for kids on motorbikes t...

Re: Bell Green Retail & Employment Plan Consultation
I think the real problem is that the roads struggle with the volume of traffic. Residents were promised that the junction with Perry Rise and Perry Hill would be sorted when B&Q etc... came in, but can't say I've noticed the change, as a resident of one of the rat-runs. Aldi will bring in even m...

Bell Green Retail & Employment Plan Consultation
Dropped through my door today, if anyone is interested. Gas towers to go, Aldi to arrive, together with a restaurant/ cafe (I'd expect Burger King over a sit-down restaurant tbh) and even more car parking. https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/15230758_10153888326515940_6151262248717758623_n...

But I'm interested to read the keystone study you mentioned. Got a link? The BBC News report here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8406569.stm This summarises the full report here: http://www.bmj.com/content/339/bmj.b4469 Be sure to read the caveats in the study which the news report and some cam...

Re: Lewisham wide 20mph roads
Isn't it interesting it refers to non-specified and presumably non-peered studies whilst ignoring completely the keystone study which was the basis for the 20 plenty campaign? I'm not clear if you are referring to the article I linked above your comment or not when talking about 'non-specified, pre...

Yeah. We're getting smart water meters whether we want them or not.
