Re: Golden Lion pub

I wonder what they've done with the bits and bobs on their sheves that they used to have (some antique, some others not so antique).. I hope they didn't end up in a skip! I will also have a look in the next few weeks... always keen to give my custom to somewhere new that has opened locally (includin...

Re: Fly tipping along the high street

Not quite fly tipping, but.......there was a crashed car at the top of Venner (by Lloyds Bank) this week... not sure if now moved.... One would wonder why that hasn't been moved away from a public walkway. I do hope no one was injured in what looks like a car smash....

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Yes - the pub and it's immediate area (hopefully with some salubrious shops) could indeed be a great view as one drives through Sydenham from the Kirkdale or Crystal Palace side. I remember the lovely late 19thC tiles internal to the pub. I know they were kept in storage, and I hope they will make a...

'What if'... two new exciting venues for SE26?

Whilst walking through Sydenham the other day, I thought it was sad that some of the historic spaces we have, are not operational (either being lived in, or open to the public). Two in particular crossed my mind: a) the old Post Office sorting office in Silverdale - a lovely red brick, turn of the 1...

Re: Golden Lion pub

It'll be interesting to see if the pub now serves food, or will be just a drinking only establishment (the latter is increasingly rare in this day and age). I wish the pub the very best of fortune and I may have a swift half there myself! :D

Oh Fab - and it's due to be sunny on Friday :-) (a good omen)... Onwards and upwards (and a glass of beer to enjoy).
Best of luck to them in their new venture..

Re: Late Knights..coming soon?

Is there any confirmed news on the Alexandra pub? Will work start soon? (I did read planning permission had been granted - at last - ). It would be good to see something being developed here. It's such as shame when buildings are left empty (especially historic ones such as that pub which I guess mu...

Re: Building site on Sydenham High Street

On a related matter, I see the 'Orb' (next to the railway bridge) is nearly completed and by all accounts the properties within have sold rather well (and swiftly).... Does anyone know what will occupy the retail premises on the ground floor? In the past there had been a suggestion it would be a win...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Hi all - 'Sainsbury's' have been mentioned a few times over this posting. Has their involvement in locating to the premises next door to the Greyhound been confirmed? A lot has happend in the world of finance and in the retail sector since it was first announced that the pub would be re-built (many ...

Re: Golden Lion pub

I passed by last weekend and it did all look rather different (I think the floors were being sanded - although it was rather dark to see through the doors). The outside paint job does look rather more 'contemporary' although may not suit all. I'll certainly vote with my feet and sample an ale or two...

Re: NEW OPENINGS, NEW CLOSINGS

Someone above mentioned about the proposed wine bar next to Sydenham DIY.... is it my imagination, or has progress on the build rather slowed (stopped?) recently?? I hope it won't emulate the situation across the road (the stagnation of the progress on the Greyhound)!

What a superb addition to SE26. I hope it all goes well, and I hope to visit some time soon for lovely food and maybe the odd glass of something strong!

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

I 100% agree with Steve.... something like a Pizza Express may not suit all tastes (literally), but I'd certainly pay my money... they do some lovely pizzas and people WOULD make an evening visit and boost the nightime economy which is severely lacking in SE26.

Re: Wine bar at 161 Kirkdale

My visit was a very pleasant experience. It's small (is there any option to expand?) but a nice vibrant atmosphere, good selection of wine, and an exciting addition to sydenham..... In a few months, this will hopefully be on the SE26 wine drinking trail starting at 'on the hoof', stopping for a bott...

Re: Syds vintage clothes shop closing

It makes me think back to my first posting on this forum….and that was about shop signage in Sydenham, and the historic wooden sign uncovered for about 12 hrs on 3 Sydenham Road a few months back (see pictures on links below)…. If only people could take inspiration from this…. http://www.flickr.com/...

Re: On the Hoof Bistro

Forgive the rather late response….. I agree that this is a great bit of news. I'm thrilled to see: a) an empty shop being turned into a (hopefully) thriving local business b) a fresh addition to our High Street which will give options for the night time economy (albeit to 9pm) I wish everyone involv...
