Re: Zanzibar Public Meeting: 14th August

I would hope someone has taken ample film footage of these events? you cannot argue with evidence on film whereas there will be plenty of verbal rebuttal and denial from the other side. It'd be hard for them to film a peaceful exit of their patrons from the sound of it. Conker - we saw ample footag...

I know Eagle - it would seem the law is on the side of the perpetrator - utter madness! The law is an ass as they say!

Zanzibar - Anyone else kept awake last night?

This is a joke. We were woken up repeatedly last night and then at 5.00am finally gave up on any sleep - got up and made some tea. This was one of our worse nights of disturbance for a long time. I think it has been established beyond doubt that the clientele attending this club have no respect for ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

Steve Appreciate your question The building , as such , has been there about 250 plus years. To be quite frank in the last 40 odd years of being a Pub it was a Dump. I suspect it may have had good days but a long time ago. I seem to recall a lot if the historic tiles were in the annex on the Cobb's...

Re: Zanzibar Licence Review

Hi And thank you for your welcome. The point I'm making is this. I can easily say what everyone wants to hear by being populist or I can be honest and take the wrath. Following the committee meeting the situation is this. Zanzibar will naturally appeal the decision. Until that appeal is heard, they...

Re: Zanzibar Licence Review

Well let's just say it is a step in the right direction. A battle has been won - but not yet the war. I'm sure this will run and run but it was obvious to all in that meeting that the issues raised were genuine and if the club did not exist in that locality we would not have the appalling anti socia...

Re: Zanzibar Licence Review

I was at the license review meeting last night and I think contibutors to this forum will already know my views on this club, as a near neighbour and a family who have suffered much from the anti social behaviour of this club. As has been pointed out before, this club relied on its 5.00am license si...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

After several weeks of nagging planning officers and solicitors at the Council (by me, members of the Sydenham Society and ward councillors), the Greyhound is now being dealt with by the Council's Head of Planning and Head of Law. In other words, it is finally being taken seriously. I understand th...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

Does anyone have an update on any progress on the greyhound. From the forum it seems the report given at the last assembly meeting was extremely poor and discouraging. I have written to the council legal department, but have not received any reply. It just seems to drag on and on.... Leenewham may ...

Re: Project Zanzibar–creating a venue that’s right for Syden

This cold be an interesting development which I think is great but not if I'm still going to be woken up between 2am and 5.30am then waiting for my alarm clock going off at 6.30am to go to work. Didn't have this problem when it was twilights. I'd be more interested if they offered to close at midni...

Re: Project Zanzibar–creating a venue that’s right for Syden

As I said in my previous post which was put on this thread and mysteriously disappeared after 3 minutes, in my humble opinion this is a cunning plan by the Zanzibar management who have managed to hoodwink two seemingly well meaning but gullible women in the shape of Belinda and Louise who, by their ...

Re: Project Zanzibar–creating a venue that’s right for Syden

Hi Maintaining a licence allows us flexibility to develop the best programme. I’m only interested in delivering events (either directly or with great partners) that are extremely well managed and make best use of the space throughout the week. Any event, no matter what end time, should target a goo...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

I'm right with you on that harrym. In fact most of my posts about the lost Greyhound have been about pulling what is left of it down and having a public square. The picture you paint of cafes with outside seating sounds just what we, possibly the nearest neighbours to this embarrassment, want. I thi...

Re: Zanzibar Licence Review

I don’t know whether anyone contributing to this thread attended the meeting at the Grove Centre back in the summer last year about this nightclub. It was well attended by lots of people who have been and continue to be affected by this place. It was called by the neighbourhood licensing police offi...

Re: New barriers at Sydenham Station

Yes what I meant to say was that there was a nice warm waiting room, with coal fire, circa 1968/9 when my Mum and I used to commute together and the up platform was indeed on the other side of the road bridge. My comment about the seats meant to say that they have yet to reinstate the 2 x 4 seats wi...

Re: New barriers at Sydenham Station

MWAV How well do you recall the days of British Railways and British Rail ? The service was not that great and understand far more trains and passengers than there ever was prior to privatisation. I think your proposal illegal by EU law anyway. I do remember years ago (circ 1968) when the up platfo...

There's a review of license notice on the door which has been lodged by the police on the grounds of "serious crime" What a shame they cant close down the Zanzibar Night club on the grounds of serious anti social behaviour - waking up nearby residents at kicking out time which is usually ...

Yep - full of praise for this site. Take a pic of the offending item, load up on the website and it's gone within 2 working days. Brilliant. Such a shame that it has to exist at all though. Hats off to Lewisham Council - exceptional response to a continuing and worrying problem. Keep up the good work.

Gilly Sorry had to miss today. Just one point your last line asks for support for the local community , which indeed is a noble statement. How many of the stallholders were from the locality. I have no idea just interested to know. If answer few or none , then could be said to be taking money away ...
